New to The Bump

Newbie with a TTC question

Hi everyone. Not sure where this should be posted but I figured this was a good place to start.

My DH and I have been thinking about when to TTC. I would like to be a bit more financially settled, which I am hoping will happen in a year or two. People are telling us "if you wait till you have money, you will never have kids." I have been hearing that for years now, but I can't stand the thought of having a baby and not being totally ready money wise.

Another  issue for us is that I was told by my doctor about three years ago that I probably have PCOS. I have read a lot about it and have seen the posts of Nesties and Bumpies who have struggled for years with it. I do not want to reach the point of being ready to TTC only to find out I have more years of struggle ahead. So my question is.... Should we start TTC soon, even though we aren't ready, since we are pretty sure it won't happen? I know I have read that most gyns say to TTC for a year before seeking treatment, so should I start that "year of trying" now? I guess my fear is waiting till we are ready and then having to wait even longer.

Re: Newbie with a TTC question

  • How old are you? That would definitely color my opinion. If you're 25, I'd say another year or 2 won't hurt. If you're 34, I'd say you need to start TTC now.

PCOS doesn't necessarily = trouble TTC

  • My husband kept saying that he didn't want to start trying for children until we had a bunch of money saved up. One of my co-workers told him that if we did that we would never have kids. Now we're trying to conceive. I hope this advice helps :-)
  • We tried for a year exactly and finally found out we were pregnant . During that year lots of tears were shed when Mother Nature decided she didn't want it to happen . I would try now , that way when the time of actually wanting to conceive comes around you'll probably have more luck ! Also try not to fret on it to much at first ! It'll happen when it's meant to happen . Good luck
  • I wouldn't start trying to have a baby and you and your husband are both ready.  It may take time for you to get pregnant, it may not.  Unfortunately there's no way to know.  PCOS doesn't necessarily mean you'll have trouble geting pregnant.

  • It's refreshing to hear I'm not alone in this! I'm starting to think a lot of couples go through the "wanting to save up before having a baby". I know it's been a huge discussion with my husband. As much as it would be really nice to have a huge savings account before having a baby, it very well could mean never having a baby. Thank you for your posts!
