What's the typical order of events for a birthday party or what are you planning on doing (if you've started planning already)? I honestly can't remember the last time I went to a first birthday party.
And I'm trying to decide on the outfit situation for the party. LO has a t-shirt that matches her theme (ladybugs) with her name on it. I'm also planning on ordering a ladybug tutu and headband that I found on Etsy. I'm guessing she should wear the tutu for eating cake, right?
Thanks for the input/help!
Re: Order of Events for Birthday Party
I was curious about that, because of what I've seen online. We will mostly have adults at the party with only a few kids. It's at a park and there is a playground/putt putt right beside the pavilion. I figured the kids could do stuff like that while the adults socialized. Plus, it's one more thing I don't have to plan!
We had a big party for DD1s first birthday, mostly because we were moving out of town the following month so it was a good reason to see everyone.
We planned it for after her nap and basically ate and socialized, and after about an hour or so we played a slideshow of her photos with music and then did the cake cutting/happy birthday serenade. We didnt open gifts or have other activities. She wore a "birthday girl" shirt with a skirt for the whole party and a birthday girl bib for the cake eating only.
For DD1 each of her bdays I have ordered a shirt from sticheroos to match whatever my theme is. We have a large family on my side and DH's so we rent the golf course clubhouse for the party. Our house is tiny!
DD1 is a december Bday I usually have chilis and soups and make these little pizza squares. I decorate the place to match the theme. I get one little cake that is DD's bday cake and then make cupcakes and cookies.
People eat pretty quickly and when it seems like eveyone is starting to finish we sing happy bday to DD. At that point it is free for all. some get seconds some eat dessert or whatever. Towards the end we open presents but people are not around just watching they are still doing their own thing. After each present I make DD go thank that person. Exception is first birthday. She was too young to sit there and open all those presents. We opened grandparents and godparents and took the rest home.
We don't have activities unless you count coolers of beer as an activity for adults LOL!
I usually bring her plastic play slide and tunnel, but we didn't last year. Honestly there is not a lot of kids at her party and she just has fun getting to eat anything she wants and run around. I told DH once we move and I can have these at my own house I might try to do some fun games. She really hasn't been old enough yet.
