Angel Care Monitor - Freak out!

We have an Angel Care monitor in DS's crib (If he stops breathing an alarm goes off...) Well in the middle of the night (when I was fast asleep), the alarm went off! I damn near $&#* my pants and ran to his room, slammed open the door to see him looking up at my like I was crazy. WTH?! Freaked the crap out of me!! I was shaking for a good 15 minutes after. Thank GOD it was a false alarm! Anyone else have this happen??

Re: Angel Care Monitor - Freak out!

  • Our daughter has laryngomalacia, so the Angel Care monitor has been a Godsend! We have had a few false alarms and I could have sworn I was going into cardiac arrest. It is such a terrifying feeling when that alarm goes off. But, I am so incredibly thankful for the Angel Care monitor, it has really put my mind at ease and worth all the false alarms.

  • My daughter set hers off back in December.  Not a false alarm, but I was able to wake her up.  It is scary, but I am so thankful for it.  No false alarms, but the panic would be the same.  I am glad it was false and you LO is okay :)
  • We gave had a few false alarms when he moves too far into a corner. I love that monitor though!

  • We actually stopped using the monitor this weekend. He was moving too much and getting in the corns and on the edges of the crib and it would go off - it would take me and my husband hours to get back to sleep and our song was fine. We feel that he is strong enough at this point in the life that he is fine and he has no spit up issues either so no more angel monitor - I hate the mini-heart attacks I was getting from the false alarms.

  • I got a false alarm for the first time last week.  He was wedged way up in the corner of the crib.  I love this monitor so much.  I sleep so much better knowing that this monitor is on.  I would much rather have a false alarm than SIDS!!!  I will say that I freaked out so much when the alarm went off last week that it was way harder for me to get back to sleep than LO.

  • Thanks for all of your responses! It actually happened again TWICE last night! I ended up turning off the monitor because I thought maybe there was something wrong with it. But then I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking maybe there WAS a reason it was going off! So this may sound really stupid, but ... my son was in the middle of his crib all 3 times it went off. So it's not because he's rolling to the sides/corners. The mat is right in the center of his crib (under his mattress of course). So could there be a real reason it went off? Like maybe he stopped breathing or something? Now I'm freaked out to NOT use it...

  • Is the sensitivity on the back turned down too low? My son is a pretty deep sleeper, and when I first started using it I got a lot of false alarms because it wasn't sensitive enough.  Once I fixed it it was much better.  Now I am thinking of getting rid of it again because he is moving to the corners and making it go off, but I do sleep so much better knowing it is monitoring him.

I actually never knew there was a sensitivity setting.  Ours goes off quite often.  Usually it's no big deal and he's moving around and/or obviously breathing when we check on him.

But once I got to him and he didn't move after I touched him.  I snatched him up so fast out of his crib and within a few seconds he was coughing and breathing.  I feel like we dodged a bullet that time...scared the hell out of me.

Regardless...I will check the setting to see if I can change the sensitivity on it so the damn thing doesn't go off so much.  Thanks for the tip!
