Since we are cheerfully seeing our friend ball.and.chain off to the Pregnancy check-in, I thought I'd start the TTC check-in for this week! Again, a big YAY!!!! for ball.and.chain!
This check-in is for anyone who is in the planning or active stages of TTC. What's going on for you this week? Next steps? Challenges?
QOTW: What is your food/supplement regimen while TTC? Are you doing anything special with your eating to prepare your body? Anything you've tried or are thinking of trying to help with fertility, etc.? Are you avoiding anything completely or planning a day in your cycle to stop, say alcohol or caffeine?
Re: TTC Check-In!
Today is CD5 for me. I started taking 2.5mg of Femara yesterday, and will take it through CD8 (Thursday). I have a CD12 u/s scheuuled for next Monday to see how I am progressing on the Femara, and then will likely do the ovidrel trigger on Monday night or Tuesday, depending on how the u/s goes, and then the IUI the middle of next week.
This will be IUI#3 for us. The first was natural (non-medicated and not monitored). The second, I had an u/s on CD12 to check my follicles, etc., but I did not have any medication. This month we are "all in" haha - using Femara and the trigger shot. Trying to be hopeful for this cycle!
So far, after 2 days on the femara, the only effects I have to report are headaches and feeling really tired. I also didn't sleep well last night, so I don't think the tired feeling is related to the femara. I think stress and anxiety is making it hard for me to sleep well lately. The TTC journey is starting to wear us down a little bit...
QOTD: I gave up caffeine in January, knowing that we would be starting our TTC journey in the early part of this year. It was hard (I was a true coffee-aholic), but now it doesn't really bother me. I still drink decaf chai tea daily, so that is my treat for myself.
We have also just tried to eat healthier in general. I lost 110 llbs 2 years ago, and at my lightest weight I know I was not eating enough. I was very restrictive with carbs and calories, and really to maintain my lowest weight I had to stick to about 1000 cals a day 5-6 days a week. I started cooking in dinner 5 nights a week in January and I have introduced a lot more protein and healthy carbs back into my diet. I allow myself treats about 1 day a week. It is a struggle b/c I have definitely gained weight in the last 5 months (maybe 10 lbs, I am not sure I haven't stayed away from the scale as to avoid obsessing)... I know I am healthier now for myself and our future baby, but it is hard to not be my thinnest.... It is something I know I will continue to struggle with, but I think I am doing what is right for my body right now...
Me - 30, My wife - 31 , Together for 10 yrs - Married August 2012
5 medicated IUIs w/ RE (March - July 2013) = BFN
Fresh IVF Cycle in September 2013 resulted in 18 mature eggs, 16 fertilized, 12 made it to day 5. Transfer of 2 Grade A blastocysts on 9/15/13, and 10 embryos in the freezer! *****BFP on 9/25/13 - betas: @10dp5dt = 232; @12dp5dt = 465; @15dp5dt = 1,581 *********William George born June 4, 2014*********I start the progesterone on Thursday of this week and take it for 5 days. Then comes the clomid. Hopefully after that will be the trigger shot and IUI. Trying to keep myself braced b/c this emotional rollercoaster of "yes, we are good to go" and "wait, there's an issue" is killing me!
QOTW: My doctor recommended Vitafol as a prenatal so we started on that. I haven't really changed my eating or any other habits, except trying to walk more (instead of grabbing the golf cart at work to ride across campus, etc). I CANNOT give up soda, but I have decreased it greatly (around 1 can a day) so I guess that is something LOL.
Married to M and proud mothers to Olivia and Elise (8/19/2014) and to our fur-babies: Capone (pitbull), Jax and Atticus (cats)
We are currently in our TWW as of yesterday. This is our third try post MC, and I'm feeling hopeful again. I actually enjoy the 2ww more than the first part of the cycle. My wife is going to carry our first but I plan and chart everything, and because we use frozen donor sperm at home, all the responsibility is mine. Once we insem I get to relax for a couple weeks :
My wife gave up everything the first pregnancy, but we are actually more laid back now. So she still drinks some caffiene and such but generally we both are trying to be healthy. I thought I might cut back on caffeine in solidarity but I take night classes and work full time, and just couldn't do it.
I'm in the planning stages - tracking my ovulation currently. Or at least trying to. It's hard because my cycles are irregular. We'll be doing out first IUI in July so for the time being I'm just trying to figure out if my body has a rhyme and reason for what it does! I had my LH surge on CD 8 so I guess that means I ovulated on CD 9? But then the time between my ovulation and AF seems so long... I'm on CD 18 and no ovulation symptoms yet (I get the big, achy breast feeling about 10 days before AF arrives). Blargh. I wish there was a little red button that would light up on our bodies when the egg was released. Would make my life so much easier. I'll be using a proper fertility monitor next month so maybe that will help. For now, I've been using those Clearblue digital fertility sticks.
QOTW: I've been taking a prenatal vitamin (CVS brand - nothing fancy yet but I plan to change it when I start my July cycle so any suggestions for a good vitamin would be welcome). I also take fish oil. I've been trying to shed a couple pounds because I'm obese, but this past weekend was rough so I indulged more than I should have
I do walk regularly, though, so that helps. Otherwise I am in good shape! Just big n chunky.
Last week we had a major setback at my hysteroscopy appointment to do my post-D&E uterine evaluation...sadly, I had an adhesion form in my uterus as a result of the surgery. In order to move forward, it has to be removed surgically - otherwise there is risk of implantation on the adhesion (BFN) or later miscarriage as the baby grows and runs into a foreign object that isn't supposed to be there.
We were/are super bummed out
- so my birthday transfer is off, and we are delayed 5-8 weeks for our FET. Likely it will be second half of July. J is happy that she will get a baby for her birthday in early April if all things go well. I'm not thrilled about another surgery, but the only way out is to go through...so next Friday the 24th is the surgery, then we go from there.
Boo.
QOTW: I am a fan of New Chapter supplements - so I take their Perfect Prenatal, and they also have a variety of fish oils, including a Prenatal Fish Oil. Additionally I take Vitamin D (Seattle), Vitamin B, and Folic Acid. I will wean myself off caffeine a couple weeks before our FET. J owns two coffeeshops so coffee is a big part of our life! But I know my blood pressure runs higher when I've had caffeine so I just feel better not altering/messing with that. Otherwise, I've gotten myself down to sugar 1x/week, alcohol 1x/week (obviously stopping that before the FET). Otherwise we've been cooking at home 5-6x/week, and aiming to eat only whole foods without refined carbs. I've also been exercising consistently 30-60 minutes every day! Hoping to be in better shape for this one than the last.
Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!

We're on CD 3 today. Our next step is a mid-cycle monitoring on CD 11 and we'll see from there. We're looking at back-to-back IUIs sometime next week!
It's a little hard to believe we're finally moving forward after all the planning and waiting.
2Mamaz, I'm so sorry to hear about your setback. Fingers crossed that everything from here on forward goes according to plan!
QOTW: My partner has just been on prenatals for the past few months since we've been planning. Other than that, it's life as usual until the IUIs.
I'm sorry to hear about the delay, 2MamazinSeattle. That's as bummer.
QOTD: I gave up aspartame at the new year and have recently tried to start using mainly aluminum free deoderant. I expect to reduce caffeine when we finally get close to an IUI. I will also do acupuncture. I have been taking a prenatal, vitamin d, vitamin b12, iron, and coQ10.
We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.
Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.
Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response
IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255

today is CD6 I messed up and forgot to take my clomid yesterday so waiting on a call from the dr to see if I should take regular dose tonight or just extend to final dose on friday instead of tomorrow thursday.
I have my ultrasound sch for 5/19 super excited to see how things are moving along. Will move forwards with daily blood work to look for surge. Sunday will be asking to see if possible to trigger instead of daily blood.
Right now I just make sure I am having a healthy high protien diet (as I have to due to gastric bypass 4 years ago) I have my prenatal vitamin added to my whole vitamin list. I walk daily for exercise, I have stopped drinking alcohol all together (never really drank much even when out with friends so this wasnt a big deal), I have limited my caffeine intake I was a big caffeine drinker so I stopped all soda with caffeine (well trying to eliminate all together and stick with flavored water) when I am in the mood for coffee I try and go decafe but when I really need a boost I will go for a coffee to get me through the day. One thing that I have started was acupncutre. I love it great stress reducer, and makes me feel like I have some control in this whole journey.

New Plan: Reciprocal IVF, me as carrier wife's eggs. Just went through insurance and received partial approval, so my part will go through my IVF benefits and wife's part will be out of pocket. Now just finalizing finance plans to cover the oop costs. Doctors office is in process of moving to a new building so there are no IVF start ups until March/April 2015.
