Help/advice/experience needed!

Morning mamas!

so, I don't typically post about sleep issues because I know they are always changing, but I'm desperate.....I tried getting the dog food out of the dryer for heavens sake!

So it started about 3 weeks ago, Parker had a cold and a cough and was cutting two teeth. All of that went away and his sleep actually got worse. Found out 2 weeks ago he had an ear infection. He was on amoxicillin for 5 days and his sleep was still crappy. We were up every 1-2 hours. Every night.

went back to the doctors last Wednesday, found he had a lot of wax build up, some discharge and his ear was indeed still infected. Got new medicine.

i thought sleep was getting better, as we finally got to 4 hour stretches, but then again last night he was up every hour again!  I can't do it anymore, I'm so drained.

So after that long story, sorry btw, I basically would love to hear your ear infection experiences and how long it took to get back to normal.  I'd love to hear advice on how to keep going!

TIA

Word for word this is what going on at our house right now.

We are letting DD bed share for right now. She is happy, we sleep so its a win. I know I will have to break her of it but I am so tired I don't even care right now! I want to figure out how to get DDs ears to drain! We have been putting a drop of baby oil in it like the Dr said but noting is coming out. UGH!

  • Sorry to hear you LO is sick! :( We are also currently going through an ear infection....her FIFTH one to be exact but this one has been the worst.  She is up every 2-3 hours SCREAMING.  I can only give Tylenol every 4 hrs so those in between wakings are the hardest.  I have been letting her sleep upright in the swing which seems to help a lot.  There's not a lot you can do but wait it out and pray.  Try tylenol and sleeping upright.  They need a lot of comfort, too.  This has been the last few weeks but this weekend was the hardest yet.  She's on meds now and it seems to be getting better.

  • I'd use garlic oil not baby oil as garlic oil helps w ear infections.  You can also use breastmilk.  Take baby to a chiropractor that sees babies as they will be able to help get the fluid to drain.  Hope they feel better soon!

  • We don't have much experience with ear infections.

I would like to reassure you, though, that if you're not doing any sleep training, it's very natural for babies to go through phases where they will sleep really well, and then wake up a bunch, and then sleep well again. It's because they're learning to trust you at night. They'll have a burst of learning, and then pull back like "wait a minute, are you still going to respond when I need you?" It's not a sign that things are going down the tubes, it's just a natural part of the learning process.

Have you tried giving ibuprofen?  I find it much more effective as a pain reliever than Tylenol.  You can also switch off between the two if the pain is really bad.  Tylenol, 2 hours later ibuprofen, 2-4 hours later Tylenol, etc.
