XP: Septum anyone?

So even though I am diagnosed PCOS, after the loss we also found out that I had a uterine septum. The RE feels like the loss was related to the septum being there. I had it removed on Friday, and have my follow-up on the 23rd, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it affecting fertility?

The information that I have read seems to indicate that it could improve fertility if it is "unknown" infertility, but I havent seen anything about removing the septum helping with ovulation issues. I feel extra jipped to have infertility and then also a loss due to something else.

Having a septum or not won't impact ovulation. We found one after my first loss and I had it removed. If an embryo attaches to the septum, it is possible to not have enough blood flow to support it. Did you have a stint put in? If you did, take pain meds before you have it removed. They forgot to tell me to take some and it was the only painful part if the whole procedure.

Hi! I'm so sorry for your loss. I was thought to have a septum but was diagnosed recently with an arcuate uterus which is slightly different and doesn't require surgery. I hope your recovery is going well from your removal. I would think that removing the septum could have an positive impact on your chances of getting pregnant now simply do to the fact that it is no long in the way at all. It wouldn't affect ovulation though. I would think that the main difference for you now is that it will no longer be causing any potential harm to a pregnancy once that is achieved. I'm glad you can now have that peace of mind. As you said you don't need anything else to worry about. IF is bad enough!

I was diagnosed with an arcuate uterus, but before the diagnosis was complete I did a bit of research on the septate uterus. The issue is not with ovulation, but where the baby implants. If the baby implants on the septum then there is a greater chance of m/c (the septum isn't able to provide the proper amount of oxygen and nutrients to the baby).

I have a septum. As you can see in my sig i have had removed several times. How big is it? A complete septum makes the surgery much more difficult if it isn't complete it is a pretty easy surgery. I second the ma group

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I also had a septum that was removed (mostly) last November. The surgery itself wasn't that bad (I had a complete septum that went all the way down to my cervix). As PP have said, it didn't improve my ovulation issues (I also have PCOS).

Yeah, that is kinda what I was thinking. Agreed, the surgery wasn't that bad, but good to know about taking pain meds before moving the stent! So... still stuck with crappy PCOS though. Thanks everyone!
