Hi all I have a 3 1/2 year old who won't potty train I've tried everything and read countless books but she still uses the bathroom in her pants , I got sick of the mess so I put her back in diapers not sure what else I can try
Personally, I would remove the diapers, remove the control. when she has an accident, I would give her a shower, make her wash her whole body. Make her get fully dressed independently, giving no leeway to become distracted, and all but ignoring the actual accident. I would make sure the natural consequence takes as long as possibly, removing her from whatever it is that is too interesting to stop.
I would take 3 days and refuse to relent. Keep her engaged in chores and interactive games and no mind-numbing screen time that keeps her from recognizing the symptoms. All day., Yes, it stinks for you but seriously, you've crossed the give a sticker and m&m phase of potty training. By 3.5 free will morphs to little adorable independence seeking tyranny.
I would also tell her summer is around the corner andyou will not buy swim diapers for 3 year olds so she will miss out.
Have you talked to pedi to rule out physical problem? Are you certain it is behavioral? Is it absent minded or openly defiant? Is she delayed in any other areas? I have potty trained kids 2 up to 22 years old and I know this much: if a 3.5 yr old isn't toileting, there is a physical problem, developmental problem, or control issue.
