Los Angeles Babies

Is Anybody Out There?!?

I am new to these boards, so it's possible that the LA board has just had an uncharacteristic dry spell lately and that I am reading too much into things, but I can't help but notice how, in contrast to many of the other boards, the first few pages of the LA board largely consist of single posts with very few, if any, responses. It looks as if there are 100s of views, so I know you are out there, but I'm not sure why people aren't responding and promoting dialogue as actively as I see it on other boards. Is it just a slow few weeks, or is it that our city is so alienating and isolating that the LA Board is not as talkative. Maybe I am too new to it and need to give it more time.

This is a huge city, and I am pregnant for the first time and was really hoping to connect with other moms-to-be in my area. For years, friends of mine on Booby Brigade and other local boards rave about how supportive the boards are and have made lasting friends on them. Maybe I am being too idealistic, but I was hoping that after posting here and there and lurking about I might start forming some authentic connections, maybe find a prenatal yoga buddy or someone with whom I could meet up for juice now and then. At the very least, I thought I would find a bunch of savvy, urban moms excited to talk, talk, talk about anything and everything related to pregnancy and parenting. And I have, it's just that there are hundreds of threads with one or two posts rather than fewer threads with ongoing dialogue. I will give it more time, but I thought it was worth commenting on. I hope this doesn't come off as rude or judgy. I'm very hormonal today.

  • I've noticed that this board is very as you put it 'dry' as well and I have often wondered why!! Maybe its just such a big city, we need to implement more specific boards...

In any case, I've found that meetup.com is a good way to meet other moms/expectant women... Although if you work, you'll surely be annoyed that most of the get together a seem to happen during the week, midday...

  • That's too bad. In any event, thanks for responding to my post the first time it's happened for me on this board.

  • There's a Mommy2 Mommy group on FB that a lot are on. I think there was an exodus some time ago (before I was on here).

  • I think part of it might be that the area is so large. I'm 9 weeks today, but I'm super new to L.A. And I'm getting ready to start school in a week and I have drill once a month, usually during the weekends when fun things are happening. However, I would LOVE to get in touch with more pregnant mommies! I have chatted with one mom through it, and even though we haven't been able to meet up just yet, I love that we're chatting through text.

  • Hi ShalomLani,
I'm about 7 weeks pregnant and looking for expecting moms to hang out with as well. Where in LA do u live?
  • Hi ShalomLani and Isacks,

I am 7 weeks pregnant and I am brand new to West LA.  I would love to get together if we are close to each other!

  • Hi! I live near LAX so not too too far from West LA. Email me at lindsaysacksyahoo.com and we can chat!
  • I second your emotion!  I'm new to the boards but have lived in LA for the last 6 years.  NONE of my friends are preggo or have kids so it kinda sucks!  I am currently 25 weeks along with my first baby and live in Hollywood with my Hubby.  I found a great prenatal yoga at Golden Bridge Yoga (on Highland) and the women are really nice but I haven't been enough times to make any real connections.  If the women that have responded to you are looking to form a group I would totally be down to meet up.  Hope to hear from you!
  • Ive never posted on the bump so i may have done this wrong..... Don't know if a meeting happened. I'm in the fairfax district in west la. Not too far from any of you. I'd love to connect with other soon to be/first time mommies. I'll be 17 weeks this week. Hubby travels for a living, and I don't have any friends in LA really. I'll try yoga. I am gonna start Pilates in the next couple weeks off of pico and Spaulding in west la. I'd love to hear from you!
  • I am in Hancock park/Larchmont. I would love to meet with expectant moms in the area!
  • I run a meet up group with moms from West LA mostly. I live fairly close to LAX. I've always wondered why this board is so dead!

  • So sorry it took so long for me to get back to everyone on here. I lost my baby a few days after posting on January 31 and never got back around to checking the first messages I posted. Hope all is well with everyone. I live in North Hollywood currently, but looking at moving to Panorama City or Northridge the beginning of next year.
