We had to work really hard to get our son in a good nap/sleep routine, which payed off. He sleeps really well. We have him on the Tracy Hogg - EASY routine and used the Ferber method (got rid of his night/nap-time pacifier use).
He just started crawling and is standing up in his crib. I've read through both books (Ferber & Tracy Hogg) again and can't seem to find how to deal with this.
I realize he will eventually figure out how to get back down on his own, but I want to make sure he gets enough sleep. I've been going in and helping him down (silently and calmly) in 5 min increments. I usually go in 3 - 4 times before he will fall asleep. Any suggestions would be great!
Re: Ferber method/Baby Whisperer question
Huge fan of both Ferber and Baby Whisperer!!!
Our son is now 20 months, so we've been through all the phases......Good times, huh???
One major major thing that got us through was practicing during the day, a few times a day, a few minutes each time.
To help him learn to sit back down I would practice with him both in the crib and holding onto the sofa. I'd put something he really liked/wanted on the floor or the mattress, like a cell phone or even puffs. Then he'd reach for it. Sometimes he'd plop down on his own, and other times I'd help release his grip and he'd plop down that way. This really made a big difference during this stage and got us through it super fast without many major issues.
