Tried not to rock....

K so I rocked dd a little until she was pretty sleepy for her morning nap. I put her in the crib and she turned over immediately which I knew she would. And I just kinda snuck out and it's been almost 40 mins and she's just been in there jumping playing with her blanket and talking. How long do I leave her there before either going in and rocking her or just forget about the am nap. Maybe this will help transition to a one nap a day routine? Or is that silly of me the think. I have no idea how I'm gonna swing that!

Now I may want to add that she did sleep in almost a hour today, so maybe that's why she didn't fall asleep immediately.

  • If she woke up an hour later and you put her down at normal naptime, I'm not surprised she played for awhile.  I wouldn't necessarily take that as a sign that she needs to transition to one nap - sure, she may be ready but she could also just be getting used to the transition from rocking to sleep.

Sometimes when I put DS2 down, he plays in his crib for an hour and then falls asleep. If I KNOW he's tired then I leave him in the crib as long as he's happy. If he starts to fuss, I go in, make sure he's got his paci and rub his back for a few minutes then walk out.  9 times out of 10 he will fall asleep in 5-10 minutes after that.  I wouldn't take her playing in the crib as a sign that you just need to give up and forego the nap today.

This. Dd will play in her crib occasionally, so we let her be, and eventually she falls asleep. She has a routine, but we aren't super strict, so if it means she falls asleep later and we wake her up a bit earlier then so be it. I wouldn't worry too much, my dd has not napped twice in a day since she was a newbie.

ETA some times if she's fighting sleep hard we go in from time to time, tuck her in and turn her music back on. Not much interaction, but just so she calms down.

  • She fell asleep shortly after I posted the op. about 45 mins. She did nap in the afternoon as well but her schedule was pushed back about 45 mins. Even at bed time. Usually she falls about 815 but tonight 9
