First diaper rash

My Emmalyn has an AWFUL diaper rash and its just getting worse! I've tried desitin, buttpaste, and a prescription cream and nothing! Then I remembered it started when I opened a new box of swaddlers. I've been using swaddlers since day one and no problems. Think it could be the box? Is that even possible? And suggestions for the rash? It doesn't seem to bother her but its patchy and dry red marks.

If its really beefy red it could be yeast. Especially if its more in the folds with small "satellite" spots

  • It could be. It could be a yeast infection too. My bff's boys each had terrible yeast diaper rashes when they were little.

  • Fresh air works wonders. Let her sit on a towel, and just get some air. Also, Lotrimin AF has always been what we used. DD1 got rashes a lot due to allergies. Pedi recommended the antifungal foot cream, and it really does work.

Sorry in advance for the wall of text.nbsp; It's a pain but I would suggest
using cotton balls with water instead of baby wipes, continue to use
buttpaste on the rash, let her go diaperless for at least an hour, and use baby
dry diapers until the rash clears up.nbsp;nbsp; My DD has a diaper rash that has been progressively getting more and more angry the last week or so.nbsp; I tried putting desitin, buttpaste, aquaphor, and vaseline on it and nothing was working too.nbsp; We use swaddlers for DD but I think she got a diaper rash because of the weather warming up and the swaddlers weren't keeping her dry.nbsp; Also, she had a mild heat rash on her abdomen and back too, which made me stress out more.nbsp; Yesterday, I stopped using baby wipes and used cotton balls with room temp water instead.nbsp; Also, I put a disposable bed pee pad on her play gym mat and covered it with a towel and let DD play diaperless for about an hour and ran a small desk fan on her bum.nbsp; Every time she peed on the towel, I would use cotton balls and water to clean her and move her over a little on the towel, so her skin wasn't touching the pee spot.nbsp; Also, I've been keeping her in baby dry diapers until the rash clears up completely.nbsp; Last night, I gave her a bath in lukewarm water with a little baking soda, no soap/shampoo, and let her air dry.nbsp; I checked her this morning and both her heat rash and diaper rash look SO much better.
awesome!! Thank you! Going to try letting her air out.

  • Maalox or Mylanta dabbed on the diaper rash is the only thing that has cleared up my daughter's diaper rash.  Put a thin layer on, then let it air dry for a minute or two.  Works fairly quickly!

  • It very well could be. My LO got both a regular diaper rash and a yeast rash at like 4 1/2 months. She is almost 8 1/2 now and she still has the yeast. It never went away even with a prescription.  I tried everything, maalox, all different brands of diaper cream, athletes foot, I even had her go bare for almost the entire day for 2 weeks straight, washing her bum off in the sink after every pee or poo and it didnt help.  I switched her over to huggies two weeks ago and the rash is almost gone. It could be just a coincidence but I hight doubt it. I think its the swaddlers. There is something in them that gives some babies rashes.

  • The Dry Lock in Pampers caused the worst diaper rash ever. It looked liked it was tearing the skin of his butt. We switched to publix diapers just to get him out of the swaddlers and it immediately went away.  We are now using cloth diapers since my son was just sensitive to all disposables.

Has your LO started food? I have found if I give my son pears he gets tiny bumps. I tried them twice and now we are a pear free house. It could be the acid in the foods  irritating and causing the rash if you don't think the diapers are the issue.

to cut the acidity in the poop, you can also try corn starch on his bum...
