Need help with cow's milk transition

My son will be a year on May 26th. So far, he has only had a taste of cow's milk last week and he didn't seem repulsed. lol He's on formula and has 3 meals a day- sometimes he eats a decent amount, sometimes he picks and throws.

My dilemma is this... I will be away at Universal in Orlando Memorial Weekend (his birthday) and then his birthday party is the following Saturday, June 1st. 

Would it be easier to stay on formula until after the trip or even his party, or start transitioning now so he's completely on milk by the trip?

 As far as solids, my son is getting better at self-feeding at meals, but is still drinking 3-4 bottles a day (21-28 ounces a day).

I want the trip to be as smooth as possible as far as feeding him during the day, at the park and at the hotel. Any advice to offer?

    It will be much easier at Disney to find water to mix formula than it will be to find WCM or bring your own and keep it cool. I would keep my kid on formula until after the trip just for the sake of convenience.

    This. They actually have toddler formula. DD drinks it at daycare so I don't have to keep milk there.

    This.  Plus, 12 months isn't the magic number it just means that starting from that point it's usually safer to start introducing it.  If you've given yogurt and cheese you've already started introducing milk.  Both DD and DS didn't react well to WCM at 11/12 months so I held off.  We didn't try with DD again until she was about 15 months.  With DS we were going to be in Asia for 2 weeks in Feb. so we held off introducing and stuck to formula while there.  He didn't transition until he was 18 months.

    Switch to cow's milk by slowly transitioning. Just do one ounce of cow's milk to begin with in each bottle. If he is okay with that, then up it to 2 ounces, and so on.

    Personally, I found it much easier to travel with cow's milk than formula because I could stop anywhere and get cow's milk. That said, my DD was on Enfamil Gentleease Ready to Feed and it wasn;t always available in stores, so I had to bring enough for the whole trip along. It was a pain.

    I wouldn't worry too much about transitioning right at 12 months.  I would just do whatever you think will work best for you.  If it is easier to keep him on formula for your trip, then keep him on formula.  We were using Alimentum ready to feed formula that had to be refrigerated once opened, so for us going that route would have been more difficult.  It also wasn't always easy to find while travelling.  I've found it is much easier to find regular milk and feed him regular food than to deal with formula most of the time. You can always find milk at a restaurant or convenience store, and since it isn't going to be a main source of nutrition like formula is, you don't need as much.  And, if you happened to skip a milk serving once it wouldn't be the end of the world, or like losing out on a meal the way formula would be.

    As for switching, we just switched cold turkey.  I never mixed milk with formula.  One day I gave him milk in his bottle and that was that.
