Gassy Cranky Baby

I don't know if it's normal for my almost 1 month old to be so gassy.  I do baby bicycles with his legs and he farts every time, not to mention he farts constantly regardless. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink during the day either.  He has about 2 large yellow seedy poops a day which he ped said was normal for a BF baby.  I give him 2.5 - 3oz of BM in a bottle every 2 - 3 hours.  He is a horrible burper and I am lucky to even get a burp most of the time.  I sit him up for about 30 minutes after each bottle to help with his mild reflux issues but the gas is unbelievable.  Anyone have any advice???  Is this normal???

If he doesn't burp, then the gassiness is probably normal. If the poops are yellow and seedy, not green and mucousy then I wouldn't guess it's a milk protein intolerance. Have you tried gas drops or gripe water? We used them daily at that age.

I second the gas drops. We've been using them the past two days and it seems to help. H was never fussy until this last week but the drops have made a difference. I also bought gripe water today to try as well.

Hannah was super fatty at that age, very smelly too. She also did not burn well, still doesn't. It can be very normal, I talked to my doctor about it.

  • DS was gassy too. As long as he doesn't seem uncomfortable, it is fine. In addition to bicycles you can also do some baby massage on his belly. That always did the trick for DS. You can search for infant massage tummy on You.Tube to see how to do it.

We had the same issue. We used gas drops a lot and went through lots of different bottles until we found Playtex Ventaire, which seemed to help DS. They're still going to be gassy though.

J was a horrible Butler at that age. Sitting up and gas drops helped along with bicycle her legs. She still had issues, but they do eventually outgrow it.

Stupid autocorrect. Burper not butler. She of course is too young to be a good butler

This ha me laughing out loud. I'm sure she is a terrible butler!

  • This sounds exactly like one of my girls. I use gas drops and those seem to help, but as far as being concerned, I asked our ped cause she has minor reflux as well and they're not concerned at all. I think it's fairly common while they're young because they get extra air in their tummies!
