I have been using Burt's Bees belly cream. I'm 20 weeks and belly is getting more itchy. Does the oil help the itching a lot and in preventing stretch marks need advice? Any particular brand that you like? that is not expensive.
does anybody know roughly how many women get stretch marks? Also, how much of it is genetic? I know some women who said their mother didn't get any but they got a lot. I use a generic form of bio oil to keep my skin from drying out but I'm not betting on it preventing stretch marks.
If you scar easily you will probably get stretch marks or like pp said if you already got them from a growth spurt you will get them again.
My mom got a ton and she also got vericose veins while pregnant. I have gotten either of these and I am on baby 3. However I definitely take after my father more then my mother.
I use a coconut body butter from the body shop and I love it.
I never got boobs so I don't know about stretch marks and growth spurts haha. I have always had a big butt (that may have been more of a more gradual process). I guess I will find out in about 4-5 months.
It is definitely worth it. It IS genetic, and if you gain more weight than recommended, or too quickly--your skin will stretch. However, you can help prevent them by keeping skin elasticity and moisture (it makes sense--if skin is moist, it will stretch more easily.) Oils penetrate deeper than a lotion. Mama mio makes a good oil (search Amazon for cheapest ones), or go to A pea in the Pod--the sell a brand called Basq ($19)
Good luck!
*Found out at 9 1/2 weeks that a little one is on it's way in November!*
The pregnancy books I've read say that stretch marks can't be prevented with creams or oils. That being said... I used some the last time I was pregnant (just incase... hoping!). Yeah... did not work. I also did get stretch marks from growth spurts growing up, too. What surprised me the most was that they did not appear for me until a few days after delivery.
I'm sure they will help with the dry, itchy skin though. GL!
I've been using Bella B Tummy Honey Butter since week 12, and now at 26 weeks don't have any new stretch marks. I already had them on my hips and breasts, but so far so good, none on my tummy. That's what I'm most worried about - big marks across the front of my belly. The stuff keeps me from being itchy for the most part too. I put it all over my stomach 2x per day - once in the morning, and once at night.
