CB OPK False Positive?

Hi Everyone!  TTC #2 following MC in November.  Have never used OPKs; this is my first cycle trying them, and I'm using the Clear Blue Easy digital smiley ones.  Here is my issue:  Several days of ewcm followed by day after day of negative test.  Tested negative at 3pm today, then got my first smiley positve at about 6:45 pm.  Because I couldn't leave well enough alone, I tested again at about 10:30 pm and it was negative again :(.  Cervix is high and soft, ewcm still present, but I was under the impression that the surge should last longer than that!!  ANY advice or words of wisdom?

Re: CB OPK False Positive?

  • I have no answer for you but I'm in the same boat. I had crazy EW fluid the last few days but no smiley face and no temp shift. Last month I got a smiley face but my temp shift showed I o'd the day before. So confusing.

  • I only got a true positive once even though I was ovulating confirmed by my RE with my DD. Good luck!

  • I've heard some women have very short surges, so maybe it's possible it could be that short.  I'm curious if you examined the lines when you ejected the test from the digital reader.  I got a false positive on a CBE digital a couple of months ago, but the test line was significantly lighter than the control line.  It just looked like a false positive, so I called my doctor and they had me do b/w that day.  Turned out it was a false positive for sure, and I got the real positive (smiley face) a few days later.

I would definitely BD at least every other day just in case!

I've gotten false positives before on the CBE OPKs. Sometimes the dye from the urine in the test windows "smears" and this can cause a false positive.

At the same time, it is possible that you had a really short surge.
