Possible relocation to Portland

We are considering taking a transfer up to the Portland area and wanted suggestions on the best neighborhoods to suit our personalities. We are looking for somewhere in the middle of urban living and suburban, a neighborhood that is walkable with cool shops, cafes and restaurants. Good schools are also an important factor in our decision. We are both into yoga and natural living without being "crunchy ". Any suggestions?

Re: Possible relocation to Portland

  • Good places to start looking are Multnomah Village district, Hawthorne district, NW 21st area, and Alberta. <3

Multnomah Village strikes me as a place you might like because it's close to down town but it's not IN the city, it has a cute little walkable neighborhood, and several good (though fairly religious) schools.

  • I love the Mt. Tabor area (Hawthorne district on the west, Montavilla to the east). Super walkable, pretty views, awesome restaurants, pubs and food carts. Hollywood and Alameda neighborhoods are also good ones to check out. Great schools and neither too far nor too close to the city.

  • Thank you for your suggestions!  This will help a lot Smile

  • You might consider the Sellwood area, too.  It's a cute, walkable neighborhood and the schools are very good.  It's a little bit removed from the city, which can be good and bad.
  • I would highly recommend the Sellwood area too!
  • I echo Multnomah Village if you're looking for somewhere between urban and suburban.

We live in Irvington historic district and love it but it may be more urban than you're looking for.
