The outdoors called today - we went to the park and were having a lovely time.
But apparently moms of toddlers weren't the only people who wanted to take advantage of the good weather - apparently pot-smokers enjoy a good smoke in the park on a nice sunny day.
Seriously. I was at the far end of the playground and didn't smell it until one of the other moms pointed it out. Then the dad there with his kid looked at me when I said, "Come on DS, we have to leave," and asked if I was smelling what he was smelling. Yep. It was a group of five or six men who'd been playing basketball, just hanging out in the parking lot, sharing a joint.
Ugh.
Re: ah, the park...
Mmm...yuck. Luckily for us, we're in the 'burbs and I found a park where I'm not afraid of DS finding drug needles in the sand. I didn't take the afternoon pot-smokers into consideration.
When Ds was a baby I took him to a park near our apt. Complex and I saw a needle syringe in the sand box. Last time I took him there.
Yikes!
We see the occasional pot smoker when we're out, but thankfully they're a rather rare occurrence.
The dad who was there called the police, but they were already finishing up and heading out when he called. It was maybe ten minutes tops that they were there, so unless the police had been right around the corner, they wouldn't have arrived in time.
And I'll be honest - I don't even know what number to call for non-emergency police issues...and your posting this reminded me that looking up that number was on my list of things to do for the evening.
Meh. By the time the police gets there, that joint is long gone. Plus weed may be illegal but it is usually tolerated here if you are only smoking a joint or have a very small quantity on you, so I doubt the police would be much help even if they did catch them with their joints still lit up.
No, you are not the only one. Now that it is legal-ish in my state, cops around the area are getting very irritated that people think they can do it in public and around kids.
