Pain still after birth

I am in so much pain all I can do is stay up and I feel like crying. I've had hemorrhoids before but never this bad. The hospital gave me ice packs, spray pain relievers, ointment, sitz bath, stool softers and absolutely nothing is working. It is almost like I'm afraid to even attempt to go to the bathroom because I'm afraid they might pop which I know is not good either.
How bad did you ladies get hemorrhoids after giving a vaginal birth?

Re: Pain still after birth

  • With my first... TMI warning, they were hanging. It took months for my hemmies to get better. The prescription they give you didn't even make a dent. I took pain killers to dull the pain and a lot of Colace for a few months. Good luck with them!
The second time around I only had a little inflammation, which is awesome because it was my biggest concern.

  • I haven't even given birth yet and mine are so bad I've been laying in bed crying for hours. They are like the size of grapes, and I feel mine may pop too. I don't think I've EVER been in this much pain.

I am so sorry because I understand how painful they are. When my son was born I was in so much pain!  My doctor and I were laughing the other day because I told him the thing I am most afraid of this time is hemorrhoids.  He said he has never heard that  one before.

How many days post partum are you? It does get better. Try the prescription stuff and make sure that you are taking the colace and folding the tucks and leaving a pad there. It will get better I promise, even though it does not seem like it will.

How many days PP are you? I know my first couple days were rough, but at 13 days PP, I'm feeling pretty good. I did not have hemmies, but I did tear. That hurt, but I managed by taking my medication and sitting in a comfortable position. I know that sitting in a comfortable position may be unrealistic right now, but try to find the most comfortable way.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Maybe call your doc. They can prescribe stronger hemorrhoid meds than are available OTC. Also, if they are external and the pain is not relieved with the measures you're doing and stronger meds, they may need to be looked at to see if they have thrombosed. This is when the vessel inside them clots off. It can be very painful when this happens, but they can be taken care of very easily by your doc. Good luck!

  • I had them really bad with my first and I also had a 3rd degree tear.  It took about 6 weeks for me to feel better.  Hang in there!
  • I had absolutely no anesthesia for the entire cs incision the first time and I still say the hemmies are way worse.  And I have no good suggestions except for limit your amount of time sitting on the toilet because that can cause them to get further engorged and more painful, but do not avoid pooping because it'll make 'em worse, too.  Good luck.

  • You poor thing. I'm lurking from June but I had this after my first. The pain was unbearable, like, worse than the med free delivery. What finally helped was an rx for suppositories. I believe they were hydrocortisone. I will not leave the hospital this time without that prescription. Congrats on your LO and hope you get relief soon!
