Myfitnesspal and sugar

How close are you to staying under your sugar goals on Myfitnesspal or other food trackers? I'm not even close to making it but my sugar is mostly coming from fruit. For example I had an apple and it is 17 grams of sugar. I only have a goal of 36 grams so it adds up. I do limit my fruit intake to just 2 servings but of course there are other foods with hidden sugar.

I'm thinking it's not too big of a deal because most of the sugar I'm getting is naturally occurring sugar but who knows...maybe that's why I'm not losing weight. Why are your thoughts on sugar?

Re: Myfitnesspal and sugar

  • I use My Fitness Pal and am never under on sugar. The majority of my sugar comes from fruit and milk, so I don't really worry about it. I focus more on getting adequate protein, staying my calorie range, and mid-to-low carbs, and so far it's working well for me and I'm averaging 1lb a week weight loss.

I was having a lot of trouble losing weight with myfitensspal so now I am on a low sugar/low carb diet and stopped counting calories for awhile. It's working better than tracking calories did for me. High protein, low carb and low sugar foods tend to be more satiating so I think I am eating less by default.
  • My sugar is never under my goal. I noticed that mine was coming from non fat flavored yogurt. I eliminated that with plain yogurt but I still like cookies for dessert.
  • I personally don't think you should limit fruit! It is amazing for you and if you are getting too much sugar from eating too much fruit I say you are doing something right. Going too low carb can be detrimental, something I think people sometimes forget. Some days I eat 10 servings of fruit and veggies (both carbs) and I couldn't imagine doing anything better for my body.
