Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone else have crazy postpartum hair loss?

My hair started falling out at 3 months postpartum (which I later read is the common time for it to start) and has only gotten worse.  The amount of hair I lose everyday is completely ridiculous, I'm not even exagerrating when I say I think half my hair is gone. My ponytail looks like a rat tail.

I can deal with how it looks, but what I really hate is pulling the strands off my arms and shirt 8,000 times a day.

Anyone else?

  • Mine was really bad too. It was awful. I still pull some hair off but it's getting back to normal. I started taking biotin again and it seemed to really help!

  • Me. I'm loosing so much hair and I didn't actually get any thicker during pregnancy! I actually thought my thyroid was going to test wonky and went to the doctor but nope, apparently it's just PP hair loss. Rather unfortunate, as if my hair wasn't thin enough already.
  • I could have written this.  I could make a nice wig with the hair I've pulled out in the past 3 weeks!

  • Yep, I've been losing a lot of hair lately too. Totally normal around this time pp.

  • When does it stop? I started really losing it around 12 weeks pp and it's been 5 weeks already and is still going strong. There is hair everywhere and I mean everywhere...

  • I started losing mine around 2 months PP. I'm a weirdo and don't let my hair run down the drain, even when I wasn't pregnant. I was freaking out that I was going to be bald and kept telling DH just to bear with me and to try not to b!tch about the hair everywhere.

I started taking 1,000 mcg of Biotin (Targets generic) along with my vitamins and other meds. I can honestly say (for me anyway) that my hair has stopped falling out in chunks. I do notice around the time AF comes to visit, I lose more hair. I, now, only lose what I consider normal hair loss on a daily basis rather than the clumps of hair.

FWIW, I also invested in some decent shampoo and conditioner. I, now, use the Aveeno hair care line and I love it.

  • Me too!  So annoying...I have to vacuum my bathroom everyday after I get ready.  I was worried about baby being around dog hair, but I guess its really my hair we have to worry about.
  • You are not alone, mine is out of control! I can easily fill up my hair brush every day. It's beyond gross.

  • I finally started losing hair, which, for me, also means that the weight starts coming off too. It's not so bad when it's coupled with that!

  • Mine has just started to get better. Which it hasn't been as bad as some of you are describing, but still. I had no idea what was going on until a friend told me it was fairly normal.

  • YES! I hate that my hair is just coming out like crazy. When I was pregnant I never was able to pull out so much hair. I already have thin fine hair. This doesn't help.

I'm so glad I read this because I thought I was going crazy. I feel like a dog with how much I shed a day. I hate finding my hair everywhere including my DS's hands. I'm ready for this calm down a lot

Oh thank goodness, I thought it was just me. I have long hair and I have to vacuum my bathroom every other day or so because it is just everywhere. I need to look into taking something to help combat the hair loss.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • So when will it slow down/stop?

This for me too and I feel like it is worse this time around after DD2!!

  • Yes! Mine also got very dry too. It was so lovely and thick and shiny during pregnancy! I would only lose a few strands a day. Making up for lost time now I guess.

Oh well, if it means my body/hormones are going back to normal, I guess it's worth the trade off. Does this mean AF is close to making a comeback? I'm BFing, so it hasn't returned yet.

    Happy Mother's Day everyone!!!
