Pregnancy Massage - do you get them?

Ladies, I just have to share a great experience. I have been waking up (like most of us) so many times at night with aches and pains. I researched some massage options and went to a 90 minute prenatal massage. It was expensive so I am considering it my mothers day gift to myself.  I feel amazing and even a little lighter.

My question is does anyone have any reasons I should not go back in the next month - besides it being costly? My therapist was so knowledgeable and gave me some great tips for labor and delivery. Just ideas to try, she was not trying to replace my doctor.

Does anyone else get massages during pregnancy?

  • I've gone a few times and am starting to go every week now.  Enjoy it!
  • I had one very early on-maybe 13/14 wks and it was a nice treat to myself. Definitely costly so I haven't had another one but though about it being a birthday gift to myself since my b-day falls on Mother's Day. I definitely wouldn't mind being relaxed a bit before this baby comes!

Might be a dumb question but do you just lay on your side while they massage your back or do they have special tables for pregnant ladies?? I've been considering getting a massage.

Thats a great question. My therapist uses bolsters ( like in prenatal yoga) to prop me up. One is a wedge so I'm almost seated. But for the most part you do lay on your side win a bolster under your knee. She does not recommend using the special tables with a hole cut out since there is no telling if it will be the right size for your bump. Also, those tables don't provide good support for your stomach muscles so your ligaments could stretch or just have lots of pressure I think. the side laying was strange at first, but if you get an experienced therapist, you won't even care. Hope you get one soon!

  • I've had 2 and i"m going for 2 more before baby! But I need to save some of my coverage for afterwards I'm told your back hurts a lot after having a baby (bending over to pick them up and poor posture while breastfeeding).

  • I'm a massage therapist and no there is nothing wrong with going again this month. Live it up girl lol... I'm going to try to go every week from here in out. I just had one on Tuesday and the girl used a table addition that allowed me to be on my tummy but honestly if you are a smaller woman you probably wouldn't be comfortable.

  • I had one at 36 weeks .....not sure I have enough time in the schedule to go back, but I may try :).
