I'm moving to St. Paul in August and am due in October. I am trying to find a local doctor and was told to find a good hospital first! Where did you deliver? What did you think? Was there an OB that you particularly liked there? Thank you!
I delivered at Regions both times. IMO, if I had a third and couldn't see my OB, I'd opt to deliver at United... The food is far superior, and if there are any problems, Regions would send the LO to Children's which is hooked up to United, so may as well be there instead. I also like how United has reserved parking for L&D in the Red Lot.
I delivered DS at St. John's in Maplewood. My OB is Dr Waschbusch from Partners OB/Gyn. I like her approach both during pregnancy and postpartum. The LD nurses at St. John's were fabulous. I was lucky enough to have her deliver DS too. She thought there was a problem with his fetal heart rate and moved quickly to get him out naturally thankfully he was fine!. SO was impressed watching her. You stay in the same room after delivery, if that appeals to you. If we decide to have another, I would deliver there again. The postpartum nurses were good too. Because we had a pretty routine stay, we saw a number of different PP nurses and I liked all of them. Like OP though, we would have been sent home the next day except that I had Group B strep and so they wanted to monitor us for one more day.
I have also heard good things about Regions, a few friends have delivered there.
I delivered both my babies at St. Joe's. I loooove them. The food isn't that great but the nurses were completely wonderful. I especially loved the overnight nurse I had with DS this past August.
The rooms are kind of small though. My sister had her baby at St. John's in Maplewood and her room was twice as big as the rooms at St. Joe's.
I delivered both my children (my second arrived on 4/28) at Woodwinds in Woodbury (east of St. Paul). Both were amazing experiences. I can't recommend them enough. My OB is Dr. topping at Adefris and Toppin Women's Specialists.
Thank you all for your help! I ended up going with Regions based on these comments and some from faculty where my husband will be teaching. I called labor and delivery and the nurse was very helpful in suggesting doctors-even giving me her favorites I made an appointment with Katie Krumwiede at The St Paul Clinic based on her recommendations. Thanks again!
