Ok so I am having some bad period like cramps but they r very sudden and sharp. They r happening every 20 minutes but only last like 3 seconds. Is this anything?
You would know if it was a contraction. Most painful thing I have ever felt.
Not necessarily.
Sorry to be that girl, but there are plenty of women who don't even know they are contracting unless hooked up to a monitor. There are also women who would not describe their contractions as "the worst pain ever", but as very intense or very uncomfortable.
I really hate "you'll DEFINITELY KNOW" answers, because, your experience may greatly vary.
All that being said, OP, if they're not lasting long it doesn't sound as if they are contractions, but true contractions WILL get longer in duration, stronger in intensity, and closer together in frequency.

This.
My contractions were painful especially towards the end but by far not the worst thing ever. Everyone is different.
They did however feel like really bad period cramps.
The random contractions I have feel like period cramps, last about 30-45 seconds, and then go away. It started off as quick little cramps around 32 weeks. It could be the start of something, or you could be a little dehydrated.
Every woman experiences contractions differently. Don't fall into the "you'll know" bit, because there are some women who legitimately don't know they are in labor until the baby is practically crowning. Others feel the very first contraction and it hurts like heck.
I'd keep an eye on them, time them from start to finish and watch how far apart they are. If this is for sure the start of labor, they'll get longer and closer together. Drink lots of water and see if it improves at all.

I agree with you on this. I have talked to almost every woman I know about their labor experiences, and it is so incredibly varied that I don't think it is possible to predict how other woman will experience their own labors.
I had one friend whose doula and midwife were convinced my friend wasn't in labor because there would be no way she would be talking to them so normally on the phone, and she wound up delivering in her bathroom by herself.
I had another friend who gave a presentation during her labor, had to be convinced to go the hospital, and then delivered after ten minutes of getting there.
My sister was 10cm dilated before she figured it out and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Other women, I know go the hospital when they are barely dilated because they are in so much pain.
I think it just varies. I hope I know for sure and it is very obvious, but I am not counting on it.

This. And they last alot longer. My labor contractions started out about 30 seconds and got up to a minute and a half long.
