Childless friends

My GF, who has no kids, just messaged me to see if I wanted to go get a beer on a patio somewhere. DH has been at work for 14 hours. I invited her over here we have a nice sunny patio. No dice. Honestly I can't even remember being able to go out like that on a whim. Oh well. Anyone else?

Re: Childless friends

  • I was just thinking about this today.  I miss being able to do stuff on a whim, but I also invite friends over to have a drink on my deck ... and no dice.  I just wish my girl friends would hurry up and decide to have kids!  Then they would understand!

We're friends with this clueless couple who will occasionally invite us to meet them for dinner - like the moment they are going, with no advance notice.

The same people will call to ask if "one of us" wants to go out to a bar.  Not happening.

  • My husband and I were just in our best friends' wedding and with everything that went along with it, they didn't understand that we couldn't do everything everyone else (that didn't have kids) could do. Most of our friends are pretty good about understanding no, but in the beginning it was a lot harder.

We do still go spur of the moment dinners out as long as it is early.  Also, one of us will go out well the other stays home.  Niether of these are big deals to us.

  • I had one continuous eye-roll as I read post after post on this thread.  Hilarious.  And heartbreaking at the same time.  I miss the freedom of my no-kids-days, but?  I wouldn't change it for anything now that the kids have arrived.  And I love the idea of inviting friends over in response to invites out, but they're so rarely taken up.  I wonder why that is?  Do they think they might 'catch it'?  Is having kids contagious?  Silly rabbits.
  • It makes me want to scream sometimes!! We have friends who tried to make dinner plans for 9 at night. When we suggested 5:30 they said they are just getting up from their naps at 5:30! Some try the last minute outing which takes a full day of planning to do too. I can't wait until they all have kids and feel horrible for giving us crap about not being able to do stuff!!

Same here. We probably say no as much as we say yes, but I always appreciate being asked. I would be miffed about OP's situation though. There's no reason you friend couldn't just stop by your place!
