Babies: 3 - 6 Months

things for 3-6 mo olds...

DS is 3 mos today. He is starting to get bored with all the things we used for his as a newborn (doesnt like the swing anymore, kind of getting over the playmat, etc). I am going to bring the exersaucer up today for him...what other things should I have that are good activities for 3-6 mos old babies?

  • I rotate toys. We switch from the swing to the bouncy chair, and the exersaucer. Rattles, or just reading books is what we do most of the time. Laying out on a blanket and playing peek-a-boo, or singing to her also is some of her favorite activities.

  • I rotate toys too. He loves his exersaucer, and his jumper for the doorway, but your LO may be a little young for that yet. He's loves my keyboard (music keyboard.) I just introduced him to bubbles outside which he got a kick out of. He loves doing errands and chores with me in his carrier - he's fascinated by everything. Whenever he is cranky I put him in it and he just takes it all in.

  • He's probably too young for the exersaucer but you could try.

They like being out and about and seeing new things, even if its just hanging out outside. I don't want a million toys so our collection is small.  I don't think they need a ton of baby stuff.  The world is interesting enough on its own to them!

  • My LO loves his jumperoo. He also likes soft blocks, books with brightly colored pictures, rattles, squeaky toys, his baby Einstein piano, and a steering wheel that plays music, the horn beeps, makes signal noises etc.

And water bottles. He loves water bottles.

  • My LO goes through phases. When she was rolling a lot the activity mat frustrated her, she preferred lying on a blanket with toys so she could get around. Now she likes her mat again and has figured out the toys more. So your LO might use some of those things again.

I rotate her small toys. We don't want an exersaucer because we don't have much storage space. She goes in her doorway jumper for a few minutes most days. She tries to sit up in the boppy if I put toys in front of her. I also wear her in a wrap while I do laundry/cleaning, talking as I go and she finds that really entertaining.
