Cut off

Last night and a few other nights this week Benjamin has been waking up three or four hours after bedtime and is inconsolable which results in me feeding him. I soothe him for about a half hour, check the diaper, doesn't seem to be teething issue, etc etc, so a bottle is my last resort. I know he can STTN because he does, or did, like 3 nights a week. Of course it could be a growth spurt or something. So, do you ladies have a cut off, as in your won't feed baby until it's been at least 5 hours at night? Just curious! I suppose I could've waited another hour and a half last night but ugh that sounded awful. He was not a happy guy.

I always feed at night if he wakes, but that's partly because I worry he is getting enough to eat. He usually only wakes up once to eat around 1 am. He goes down at 9 and is up around 7. One day last week at the babysitters, he only took 6 oz of BM in almost 8 hours so I figure he needs those nighttime ounces! Plus I enjoy my sleep and if I nurse him, he usually goes right back to sleep when he is done.

  • Unless its been 7 hours I usually won't feed her. Mostly because when I was feeding her before that, she really wasn't eating a whole lot. That being said, if she wakes up, does back to sleep, and wakes up again within a half hour hour span, I feed her.

  • I give it a few minutes of trying to give her a paci, if she keeps spitting it out I know she's hungry and then give her a 2-3 oz bottle. That usually gets her back to sleep.

If H can't be soothed back to sleep relatively quickly, I feed him.  Also what Kieannb said - if he wakes back up soon after soothing, I feed him.  If I pick him up and he immediately tries to latch on my face, I feed him.  It's usually only once a night, but sometimes he is just hungry more.

I always feed B if he wakes in the MOTN. Some nights he will sleep for 10-11 hrs straight, other nights he is up once or twice. I figure that if he wakes up and can't get himself back to sleep, then he must be hungry.

Nope. I'm in the "if he wants to eat, feed him" camp.

And LJ has STTN so I don't necessarily think that one precludes the other.
