Recommend your carrier.

Preferably one that isn't a complete PITA to figure out how to tie, wrap, etc and one that won't make my back hurt ( I have back issues).

It doesn't sound like this is what you want to hear, but my favorite for tiny babies is a stretchy wrap (like Moby).

As they get bigger, a soft-structured carrier (like ERGO) is the way to go for ease of use and comfort for both.

I tried the bjorn, moby, ergo, maya ring sling and didn't care for any of them. I checked out thebabywearer.com and based on what I wanted out of a carrier, I tried the BabyHawk mei tai carrier and LOVED it. I can't wait to use it again

It is different for everyone, so you might want to try some out in-store

Ergo and if like how the moby works but not figuring out how to tie it- try the baby k'tan. It is like the moby, but prewrapped- no fabric origami and no dragging fabric in the parking lot. I love mine 100x more than my moby.

DD hated the moby but loved the bjorn when she was teeny tiny, now we use the Ergo because it doesn't kill my back and I have figured out how to do the hip carry position with it. The ergo does have an infant insert that you can use as well, so it really does depend on how often you baby wear.

Beco Gemini... I did a ton of carrier-research while pregnant and this one came out on top. I do think it's too big for a newborn though- I believe the minimum weight is 8lbs but I was not comfortable with that. I think I waited until like 12lbs or so. Also, it's great for those with back problems because the waist-band is nice and thick so it distributes weight evenly and into your legs, as opposed to your neck/shoulders.

This was us exactly. I'm still able to put E in the Ergo now, at 2 years old.

An Ergo? Is that the totally obvious answer? But, seriously, I had a sling, a moby wrap, and an Ergo Sport, and I used the Ergo waaaaaay more than the others (still use it all the time). We had the infant insert with it, and I can't imagine needing more in a carrier. The moby was great when she was a newborn though... but learning to tie it is a bit of a learning curve. With our next LO, I'm going to try a woven wrap as well for the early months - I've seen and heard really good things.

I liked my Beco Butterfly II. It's similar to an ergo, but it has a sort of internal harness thing that makes it easier to get the baby on your back without worrying so much about dropping him or her.

Edit: it was also much more supportive than all the others I tried. DS was 20lbs at 6 months and almost 30 at a year, so that was important.

I also had a mei tei, but now that ds is well over 20 lbs, the Ergo is more comfortable.

Ring sling or sleepy wrap for newborns. Around 4 months I like to switch to the Ergo.

I also have back issues. I hated the Moby. Don't use it. It's awful. It's a PITA to tie and then hurt my back.

For the NB stage I love, love, love our mei tai. It's super easy to use. It's very fast to put on (much faster than the Moby, which I always had too tight or too loose and had to redo a million times). And it never made my back hurt.

After that I love our Boba carrier. I am sad that I don't get to use it now, as BW while pregnant just doesn't work for me.

I used a Baby k'tan in the earlier months and loved it. Like someone else mentioned, it's like a Moby, but it's pre tied. It's two loops instead of a long stretch of fabric. Just be sure to look online about how to make sure you're getting the right size. There's a video on YouTube called "moby vs. baby k'tan" that'll show you the difference.

After the earlier months, I got a Boba and I loved it x1000. It's an Ergo type, and I did some research on Boba vs. Ergo and decided on the Boba. I can't remember why though, haha. But I really love it.

I love my Ergo. SIL gave me an infantino that she used with her youngest so I used that first. It killed my back and DD never felt very supported in it so when I realized I would use it frequently, I bought the Ergo.

I have two. I have an Ergo, which I have used with Eryn since newborn.

I also have a Boba. I used this with Leah until I got pregnant with Eryn when she was four and a half. I have just started to use it with Eryn. I truly love both of them. Leah loved the back carry of the Boba. She would still fit in it at five and a half weight wise.

I use a huggaloops snuggle sling. It's just three interlocking circles of stretchy fabric. Super easy and my son loves it.

DH likes to use a seated snugli, I think just because all he has to do is buckle it.

I've got a Moby and I love it. I've heard the K'Tan is a good alternative if you don't want to maneuver the wrapping aspect. Honestly, if I had extra money, I'd try it out as well. I do think the Moby tends to heat up the kid faster, though, which sucks in the summer.

That's one thing that's great about the k'tan... I have the "breeze" version which is half jersey material, so it's a lot cooler. It was still too hot here in July to babywear outside, though.

Moby loved it for little baby but lots of tying. Ergo is my all time favorite and then I also like Mei ties.
