Happy Friday, Ladies!
What do you and your DH skimp on to save money? We know that IF gets expensive and we're financially conservative (savers) by nature, so we're always looking for ways to save money. IF just gives us more motivation to cut back!
For example, we decided to cut out smart phones 18months ago - we just don't need them. We save at least $60 per month on that! What do you all do?
Thanks!

*Taking a break*
We use Mint.com to track all our spending and create a budget/savings plan. Just being more aware has helped us cut down on unnecessary purchases.
We also eat at home most meals and we go to the early bird movies (before noon on weekends) to save money on tickets since we like going to the movies so much.
I also switched hairdressers as my old one was VERY expensive. I found one I like even better that is WAY cheaper!

Baby boy arrived 11/13/14!
We try not to eat out as much, look for cheap happy hours around town, go to earlier movies so they aren't as expensive and try to cut down on traveling. We use to travel a lot so my DH could play hockey, but stopping those trips has helped a ton. Good luck with the money saving!
DH and I are also savers by nature, but we have been watching how much we eat out and also I'm thinking of dying my hair back to its natural color. Highlight/lowlights are really expensive!
We also pay off our credit cards every month, which has helped tremendously. We only charge things on them that we know we can pay off at the end of the month. DH is a little crazy about accruing interest on them.
I recently created a budget (in excel), we are not big spenders to begin with but it was still eye opening to see where our money was going!
We don't pay for TV (no cable, just an antenna)
DH no longer buys lunch every day but packs one and we cut out how frequently we were eating out and if we do try to use a groupon or a gift card for at least part of it. I also cut back on my personal spending habits (clothes, crafts, etc..)
Good luck!

(1) Take lunch to work 3x a week at least
(2) Buy diet coke in bulk at home instead of at work
(3) Never take cabs, always subway (we live in NYC and don't own a car)
(4) Always fly coach, and try to use frequent flyer miles for all vacation costs
(5) Learned how to say no to people who always want to go to the bar--- much nicer & cheaper to have drinks on the roofdeck at home
(6) I make a crock pot of soup on Sunday nights that is a great for dinner during the week so we avoid takeout
(7) Always try to save food in tupperware instead of baggies, because it gets expensive
(8) Bring reusable bags to whole foods instead of using paper bags- the 25 cent discount per bag over the years has added up
(9) meet friends for appetizers instead of dinner when they want to meet up
(10) Try to find fun frienda activities on the weekend that are free
(11) Unsubscribed from all promotional emails so I am less tempted to shop
(12) Use cash more often- swiping the card is too tempting!
