Stroller Recommendations Needed

Our son is 3 months old, and we have still not decided on a stroller. We have a Chicco carseat with the Keyfit Caddy, and it is so convenient for grocery shopping, etc. Now that it is nice out, though, it just can't handle long walks. The time has come to make a decision!

We're going for 2u2, so we had been considering the City Select or UppaBaby Vista- thinking why not make the investment in something that can be a single or double? We visited them yesterday and I'm now not sure about either- the City Select is kind of a beast in singles mode, and the UppaBaby isn't much of a double (the rumbleseat only 35 lbs + pretty squashed in doubles mode). I will still likely use the snap'n'go in and out of the car most of the time, but I'd like the option to stick whatever we get in the trunk of my smallish sedan.

So now I'm back to the drawing board, thinking about just getting a fantastic single and worrying about the double when the time comes. Looking for something light-ish (not over 25 lbs, for sure), infant-toddler, can handle uneven sidewalks, good storage, good canopy. So far in my late-night googling I've come up with the Bumbleride Indie, which seems perfect except that the seat can't switch to face both directions, something I liked about the City Select and UppaBaby. Clearly no one stroller will be perfect, but can y'all help me out in thinking of some other options for a fantastic single? Not in love with the City Mini, would like something a bit more substantial.

TIA!

I have the UBV and I love it, but definitely not a good double option for reasons you listed.  I just got the Bumbleride Indie Twin, but haven't used it yet, so can't review.   I would go ahead and get a great single and then worry about a double when the time comes (which may not be exactly as you planned).  I will say that it is very hard to find a stroller that fits ALL of your needs and you may end up like me and get more than one.    We have the UBV, a BOB (bought used off craigslist) and the Uppababy G-luxe umbrella for travel and quick trips.

The cruz wasn't available when DD was born but I think its definitely a great option.  We barely used the bassinet.

  • What about the britax b ready? It is just a bit bigger than the vista, but a much better doubles option. Kinda in between the city select and vista.

The B-Ready is pretty big as a single but it's an excellent double. For your needs I would look into the Baby Jogger Versa if you want a reversible or the Bumbleride Indie.  I have the Indie Twin and it's great!  I'm sure the single is awesome as well.

I do think though that you should just get a single and deal with the double when the time comes. New things are always coming out and you can always sell your single if you want to.  I think you'll find with 2 close together that you need a few strollers so you may just end up keeping the single and adding a double.

  • I have the Uppababy Cruz and I absolutely love it.  LOVE it.  I am so bummed that I'm not going to get to use it anymore now that I'm having twins.  I also have a 2009 Vista and I didn't think it was so great - it was heavier and wider than the Cruz, we only used the bassinet around the house for a couple months, and I looked into getting the rumble seat but the fact that it only faces backwards is a deal breaker for me.

We have the City Select in the garage still in the box waiting for when the babies get here.  I wish UB would make a true double - I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Me too!!! I'm convinced they must be working on one because they have got to want to get into the double market!

We love our City Select...i used it a ton as a single when I was on maternity leave and had the baby by myself when toddler was in preschool...and loving it as a double, too. yes, it's heavy, but I feel like it's very solid and well-made.

  • Gosh, these single to double strollers are hard. You either love it of hate it. We wanted the City select, as I liked the option of 2 full sized seats. But it wasn't in stock so my mom bought us the B-Ready. In addition to that I have the Bumbleride indie twin. I love  it. It is my favorite stroller. I want a single of it. The B-ready  is great for certain things and my girls will ride in the bottom. It is not that squished down there. If I had my choice, I would have gone with the select, but it is larger.
