Pregnant after 35

Fibroids

I am 34 and will be 35 when I deliver baby 3 in December. I did not have fibroids with my first 2 pregnancies, but one was found at my 8wk u/s... Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Fibroids

  • I'm 37, and I have two fibroids.  I've had them for a couple of years.  Fortunately, they are located in areas where they shouldn't complicate the pregnancy, but to be sure the doctor takes special care to check them.  That's the lemonade part of the fibroids lemons.  It can mean longer or extra ultrasounds, so you may get more time to admire your little one.

Good luck.  I hope you don't have any troubles with your fibroids.

  • I am 40 and I also have one. It is quite large but not in a compromising position. Thye always measure it during my ultrasounds though no changes have taken place. I am now 36 weeks and actually forgot about it until I read your post!

I had 2 children when I was 20 and they were not there. I would not be worried... seems to be quite common!

  • I have one. It grew from under 2CM to 5CM between the IVF drugs and the pregnancy hormones.

It is in a place where it does not affect the baby, placenta or delivery.

Maybe you can ask your doctor about the location of your fibroid and whether it may pose a problem.

I also have a couple small ones, from what the specialist says, they usually aren't a problem in pregnancy. They should be able to answer all your questions as to if yours are in an inconvenient spot or anything else, but I wouldn't be concerned.

I do recommend seeing a nutritionist after delivery to help treat them so they don't grow to the point that they need to be surgically removed down the road. I know many who have had really good outcomes and have been able to eliminate them completely this way. Three years ago I had surgery to remove a very large fibroid and I do not intend to have to deal with that again, so I will definitely be seeking treatment for mine after delivery.

I have 8 of them and 5 of them are large. From 9-12 weeks they caused me to have small amounts of vaginal bleeding because they grew so fast. Around 18 weeks, my largest one (11cm) degenerated and a week later, an 8cm one degenerated as well. It was painful, like I didn't want to get out of the bed, cough or sneeze kind of pain. Mines are mostly within the uterine wall, 2 are outside of the uterus. I've had frequent ultrasounds to monitor growth. The 11cm one is on the lower uterine segment which could be in the baby's way at delivery. So I may deliver by c/s which I don't mind. I'm 37 yrs. old and almost 32 weeks. I got them when I was 35, my other 2 pregnancies were fibroid free :) This is the "lemons" part of fibroids. Most pregnancies with fibroids are uncomplicated. But it depends on where they are, how large and how many you have. Thankfully, I haven't had preterm labor or any major issues thus far and LO is growing healthy & normal. Your one fibroid hopefully won't cause any major problems either. GL!
