Two Under 2

XP: UB Vista with Rumble Seat vs. City Select

XP from nursery baby gear board:We will join the 2 under 2 club in June and am trying to figure out my stroller situation.  We have the UppaBaby Vista, which I love, but the reviews on the Vista as a double are pretty mixed.  My LO will be 18 months when baby arrives so she will continue to ride in the stroller for awhile.  She's tall for her age though so I don't want her to be cramped in the 2nd seat.  I'm debating selling my Vista and buying the City Select since it has a lot more options as a double.Has anyone gone from the Vista to the City Select to accommodate a second child?  If you use the Vista as a double, do you like it or do you wish you had something else?TIA!

Re: XP: UB Vista with Rumble Seat vs. City Select

  • I didn't have the Vista, but I had the Peg Perego Skate with the extra seat.  It was great for the occasional shopping trip. As the girls got older, rarely were they both in the stroller at the same time, but I enjoyed having the option of restraining both of them, when necessary.

I love my double bob and use that for all outdoor activities.  I recommend getting the extra seat for your UBV and getting a side-by-side.  They are much easier to push.  FWIW, my friend has had a lot of issues with her city select as a double and eventually got a double BOB.

  • I had a BJCS when my DS and DD were young.  They are 16 months apart.

For me, I did like the BJCS as a double.  Both kids had plenty of room and the stroller functioned pretty well considering how big it was.  Since you are saying your older child is tall, I tend to lean toward you selling the vista and getting the BJCS.  It is more space and more comfortable for bigger/taller kids.  The stadium seating means that both can see around them.  You also have more flexibility with arrangements (them facing forward, backward, each other). However, I agree with the PP that it is pretty ridiculous as a single which is inevitably why I sold it.  Once my older child was pretty much out of a stroller I found the BJCS was collecting dust because I never used it as a single.  I used it for about 18 months frequently and then 6 months seldomly before I sold it.

I also like the idea that a PP had about keeping your Vista and buying a side by side like the Bumbleride Indie Twin or BOB Duallie.  Obviously this is more expensive and might not be practical.  I personally had both a BJCS and a Duallie and used both a lot.  I still have my Duallie.

Despite what Baby Bargains wrote, they do not do "all the same things".  I love Baby Bargains just as much as most people, but their stroller reviews pretty much suck.  If you have ever spent more than 5 minutes with both of those strollers (like, outside of a BRU) you would know that there is pretty much no comparison between the quality of those two strollers.

This is starting to sound like a really good option.  Now I need to research side-by-sides!  I've never really considered the BOB because we don't jog and it seems so big.

They are big.  But welcome to the world of big strollers, darling :).  All doubles are pretty darn big.  The nice thing about BOB is that it is very good quality and have longevity.  My kids both happily ride comfortably in the Duallie and they are almost 4 and 2.5 (and my 2.5 year old is a tank).  If you don't run, ignore that SUV and Ironman versions (that have only the fixed wheel) and get the Revolution which swivels for maneuverability.  Then if you do decide to run you can still lock the front wheel.

Despite my love for BOB (I am a runner), if you don't run I highly recommend looking at Bumbleride.  They are very good quality (soft fabric, excellent recline, etc) and have great design.  I love the colors :).

  • I'm not super familiar with the UB Vista, but I'm currently using the City Select as a double. I really love the durability of BJ stuff and this stroller is great. It's super functional and morphs very quickly. My only really issue with it is that my kids are tall/big and I can see they are going to outgrow it height wise before I would like.

In general I do not like rumble seats...they put kids way to close the sidewalk for my taste.

If the City Select isn't your deal, I'd check out the BOB as mentioned or even the BJ City mini.

  • I bought the ub Cruz with my first bc I don't like how the vista rumble seat  was so low to the ground.  Now I will be getting the city select bc of the stadium seating and options...I'm just hoping the quality is as good as my uppababy bc I love it :)

I would highly advise going to a store to try it out and push with with your older child and something that weighs 20 lbs in the other seat.  All strollers seem awesome when no one is in them but the child's weight can really change things.

  • We had a BJCS and I loved it as a single but hated it as a double.  My daughter is really tall for her age (95th percentile) and she never had room in the back seat.  Even if I put the baby in the back seat, I felt like she didn't have much room, either.  If I wanted to recline the baby, I would have to recline the toddler, too, which isn't always practical.

I ended up selling my BJCS and bought a BJ City Mini Double and LOVE it.  I honestly don't find maneuvering that around any more difficult than the City Select because the CS is so darn long and I couldn't really see over it to see the very end of it to not knock it into things!
