Re: SSA Most Popular Baby Names 2012

  • Just about to post this!

    https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/#ht=1

I'm going to go though it, pick out all the names I like, then have DH go through the list. We haven't really talked about names, so I'm excited/nervous to see what his taste is.

  • I'm a little surprised Sophia is number one.  That is totally our girl name and I didn't think it was that popular.

  • Our name choice is in the top 25, thought it would higher than that.  Either way I am fine with a popualr name b/c I am so in love with it!

  • oh crap. Liam went up 9 spots since 2011. Why is that the only name DH likes? ugh.
  • I'm thinking in 3-4 years Charlotte will be #1. It might be a stretch though, but it's not only rising but I do hear it a lot.

I wonder if the Walking Dead has something to do with Sophia being at the top of the list.
  • Girl name is #146

    Boy name is # 411

    I can handle that.

I'm thinking in 34 years Charlotte will be 1. It might be a stretch though, but it's not only rising but I do hear it a lot.

I wonder about the Charlotte trend too. It is by far my fave but I don't want my daughter to be one of three Charlottes in her class.

I know 2 Charlottes. One is my best friends 1yr old. The other is my neighbor who is in their late 20s. It's a great name.

  • Wow, I didn't picture Jacob (our pick) being number one, but that doesn't change anything.  Our girl pick is Emily, but looking at a different spelling.
  • Our girl name is #179 (Kinsley)

    And boy is #853 (Gibson)

  • I am pretty sure that Sophia has been at the top for years. Same with Jacob.

Neither of my girls are on the top 100!

My LO's name is 27th. The girl name we have picked out if we ever have a girl is 91st. Aria is apparently getting a lot more popular than I thought.
Im still happy with my Lucas Brandt L.

  • I'm bummed, our boy name is in the top 5.  We won't be changing it if it's a boy though, we love it and feel strongly it's the right name.  Don't have a girl name yet...
  • Both our boy and girl picks are in the top 200... But I haven't heard of anyone recently looking at either name. My husband and I have the male/female version of each others names, so we definitely want names that aren't as common.

None of our girl names made the top 1000 w00t, including DD's. Boy name's in the top 20, but I'm fine with that for a boy.

Now I want to know your names! I don't know about this list, but up through 2011, my choice, Margot, wasnt on the list

There is a Charlotte in every class I take ds to. I love the name, nn Coco, but it's crazy popular around here

  • We have not even discussed names but I looked up DS's. nice to see it has been going down in popularity. It was 60 in 2000 and down to 188 in 2012.

  • YAY! DD1's name is starting to creep back down! DD2's name isn't even the top 600 LOL.

  • DD's name dropped 111 spots. It's still 658, but it had been holding steady in the 700s for a couple years. For some reason I have this ridiculous fear that her name is going to just take off some day. And one of our top girl name contenders, Colette, came from out of top 1000 to land right next to Matilda at 659. That one really surprised me.

  • One of my boy names is on the list- Jayden. Which is upsetting to me because I don't want to use a most popular name as the middle name will be John after DH's grandfather. Our girls middle name is also on the list- Elizabeth. I am not worried about that one though, because it is after both my and DH's moms and the middle name. Looks like I've got to hit the books to come up with a replacement name for Jayden as DH is being difficult about boys names, lol.

  • Our girl name and middle name don't even rank top 1000 in the last 100 years. It's not even about any sort of special spelling either, they're just that uncommon!

We don't have a boy name picked out at all... not even any contenders yet.
