Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Something to worry about?

My son is 7 mths old will be 8 mths old on the 14th of May. I am A FTM so  I don't know if this is normal or not. My little one does not crawl, scoot, go backwards or roll. He can not get up on his legs. He will reach as far as he can, but that is about it. Should I be worried? He goes to therapy for not using his right side as much as his left and Torticollis so that always worries me that it could delay things.

Re: Something to worry about?

  • Can he roll from his stomach to his back? As in flip himself over? That was one thing they asked me at the 6 month appointment.  They weren't concerned whether he could do a 360 degree roll--just whether he could flip himself over.  They also asked whether he could support weight on his legs with an adult steadying him for balance and whether he could sit up on his own unassisted.  If he can't do those things, you might bring it up with your pedi.

You have to remember that alot of babies do things in their own time and at their own pace. If your LO was born early, that can also affect when he does things because his adjusted age is actually younger. I would only be concerned if your pedi is concerned.

Edit: By sit up, I don't mean that he can sit up on his own, but rather that you can put him in a sitting position and he can hold himself there for a bit.

  • Well first of all, if your son is in therapy, I would hope that the therapist would notice if something was wrong and say something!

Second, I am a STM and my son at 7 months was barrel rolling all over the place.  My daughter, however, is currently 7 months and doesn't even try.  She doesn't care to use her legs to stand, but in the jumperoo she loves to bounce and uses them there.  She does sit up now, though.
I was concerned, so I checked with the pedi who said she is completely fine and on track.

    Check with your pedi!

  • My 9 month old just rolled from back to front for the first time this week and he isn't even close to crawling, scooting, or pulling himself up.
