Ok, I'm new here, and just wanted to know other people's experience with pcos. I was diagnosed with it when I was 19. However, my hormone levels were normal and still are. The dr said I had a minor case of pcos and gave me a prescription for b.c. To regulate my periods. However, it made my blood pressure raise so I discontinued them and didn't go back to the gynecologist until I got pregnant 5 yrs ago. At the time I got pregnant I had a healthy bmi and getting pregnant was not planned. I gained quite a bit of weight after I have birth and my cycle started getting crazy. However, I don't think I've gone more than 2 months without a cycle. My hormones have been checked since my husband and I started ttc about a year and a half ago. I was given metformin for the simple fact that we hadn't gotten pregnant yet, and because at 19 I was told I had pcos. The metformin made me very sick, so we decided that my husband was going to get checked out. He is not my daughter's biological father. He did have some issues and we have gotten that fixed. I started back on the metformin after not having a period for about 2 months, and I am up to 1000 mg. I'm just wondering if anyone else that has been diagnosed with pcos had normal labs, and the dr didn't seem too concerned about doing a new ultrasound to see if the ovaries in fact have cysts? Also I am late several days even though I've been on the metformin for about a month now, and according to the pregnancy tests, I'm not pregnant.
Re: Possibly pcos? Warning, mentions a child
Thanks for the info. I haven't been successful in getting a referral for that yet, and apparently in my area you have to get a referral before they will accept you as a patient. I will be 35 in August, but I think we should meet the requirements since we have been trying since December of 11.
This.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago. I had a bad experience with my OB and went to an RE. The RE has done several ultrasounds. First to confirm the PCOS diagnosis and then to see how different treatments were working. I haven't had an ultrasound in a while but I recently an endometrial biopsy to see if I was ovulating -- which was really the concern. I too take 1000 of the metformin each day. Are you taking the extended relase tablets? I have heard they can help with some of the stomch upset, etc. I have not really had any problems with the met.
Sorry you and your husband are experiencing troubles TTC. I would suggest getting evaluated by an RE -- expecially if your husband has some fertility factors going on.
Good luck to you.
