Although M isn't crawling yet, I need to baby proof our place so that we won't be caught off guard if he decides to do so.
I'm hoping to get some used ones on Craigslist, but there are so many different styles that my head is spinning.
We need at least 1 for top of the stairs. I understand it has to be hardware mounted. We probably will need one (down the road) for M's nursery doorway, so I can leave him in there without shutting the door at him.
For our living room, I may end up getting a all-around gate to create a play area instead of baby proofing it. we have an open concept condo (living/dining/kitchen all in one space) so it's quite difficult to baby proof the whole area.
Can you tell me which ones/brands you have, and do you like it? Do you have a preference for the locking/opening system?
Here are some of the gates offered on CL:

https://www.cardinalgates.com/versagate.html (I'm thinking this one, with extensions, can be used for a play area in the corner of our living area?)
TIA!
Re: Can I have a baby safety gate tutorial?
I'm not much. However, we did have the first one at our old house for the dogs. I really liked having the walk-though ability, as opposed to the old baby gates that were all or nothing.
My B and SIL have this:

(Sorry, I'm challenged when it comes to clickies. I used to be able to do it, but have lost my touch.)
Which is great for small areas. But I had difficulty using it one-handed.

The second one I have blocking the entry to my living room. It does come down occasionally and you can't open it one handed if its locked. There is a lever you can lift up and down to open and close but my son figure out how to do that at about 11 months so we have to make sure it's locked. I do like it and still use it. Another downside is that it has marked up my walls so make sure you have touch up paint for down the road.
I would purchase both again. I don't think there is one perfect gate for every situation so just make sure it will work for your situation. I purchased mine from amazon, they had the best price.
Get the walk-through gates and fences!!!!! I fell on Monday over the baby fence and really hurt myself. I am clumsy anyways, but that is my biggest piece of advice
We have this baby fence that we use where we need, and we just bought the extra panels in which one has a gate: https://www.amazon.com/North-States-Superyard-Play-Panel/dp/B00020L78M/
We also have this baby gate: https://www.amazon.com/Dreambaby-Extra-Swing-Close-Extensions/dp/B000EI8L0O

It works and looks nice. I really haven't used it yet even thiugh DS is super mobile and into everything. I pretty much keep DS occupied while I am in the kitchen by giving him a cabinet to explore. I also just try to keep him out of other places or rooms I don't want him in by closing those doors and locking off limits cabinets.
