New crib mattress question

We got a new mattress Tuesday and I immediately took it out of the plastic to get rid of the smell. How long till its safe to use? We had a used mattress for DS #1 so we didn't have this issue.

    Umm, I have never heard you can't use it after a good wipe down. Every mattress we have gotten I have just washed with a damp towel, some dish soap and hot water and let it air dry and then used it usually that same night. What are you referring to that would make it unsafe, I am curious....
