Pnp vs bassinet

Hello ladies and happy Thursday!

I know the difference between each item, but how would you feel about using the pack and play instead of a bassinet. We have the space in our room and find it more convenient bc it has the changing table area too, plus a place for diapers and wipes. At first I thought it was not the right thing to do but now I'm thinking it is similar....the new pack and plays are more suitable for newborns these days.

Any comments/concerns??

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Pnp vs bassinet

  • We are using the PNP instead of a bassinet (again) since we have the room and I like how it has the diaper changing station and storage.  Also, the PNP can be used MUCH longer than the bassinet.

  • We are doing a PNP as well, we went with the Evenflo BabySuite 300. It works out for us in our small apartment and will serve several purposes along the way. Bassinets are so expensive for something you will use such a short time.

  • We went the PNP route as well.  Just seemed better all around and thought it would get more use than a bassinet.  I did also get a rock and play b/c I thought this would come in handy for when I was laying on the couch after delivery (it's the perfect height) and it can also sit right beside our bed if baby doesn't like the crib or PNP.  Our bed is REALLY high though so it'll probably be a pain in the butt.
  • I am using the pnp again instead of a bassinet. It works fine and saves money since you use the pnp for a lot of other times.

I will be re-using our bassinet. I loved it last time. I have never used a pnp.

  • We'll be using a PnP again. My oldest was the only one to use the bassinet (a REALLY old family heirloom that got retired after him). The PnP was just so much easier & portable. Plus, we got so much more use out of it.

  • my parents just bought us a pack and play. where do you buy sheets for the pack and play? FTM here and i have no clue. my mom says she can make some but I'm sure i can find them somewhere?
  • We're using a pack and play this time around too. We got a graco stages so the bassinet will last a little longer. We used a pack and play with our oldest and found it really convenient. Our second hated the thing so she slept In her swing till she transitioned to the crib and our son started out in the rock and play then moved to the crib before he was three months . It's a great option just depends on your life style , budget and preference really. I do find that the changes on the pack and plays are tops for my back so I don't use them .
  • I'm using a bassinet, only because my mom is giving me hers. I wouldn't have bought one. We have a pnp too for travel and bringing the baby to my parents but I would have used it in my room if I didn't have the bassinet.

  • I think the PnP will offer you more flexibility and longevity than a bassinette.  It's also helpful for local travel, picnics, camping, etc.

    Amazon:)

  • We got a PnP that has both the "newborn napper" AND changing station, side by side. We figured a PnP would take up about the same space as a bassinet in our room, but after the newborn stage we could still use it for travel and playtime.

They have them at BRU & BBB. There were some in the aisle with the PnPs, as well as on the endcap with other PnP accessories.

A mama friend of mine advised me not to waste my money, skip them completely and just use regular sheets in the PNP.

  • Great thank ladies!
  • FTM here, but we plan to use the PNP next to our bed for the first few months.
  • Thanks for all of your input.
