Blood work back...

BFN. And still no AF. Makes me 2nd guess what I thought I knew about my cycle. Ugh.

With DD, I was pregnant without intervention- just OPK & one IUI. Now I wonder if I should enter the world of assistance (follicle tracking, trigger shot)? Our fertility center seems to push it, and it certainly brings them more revenue. Should I just go for it and let them stress over my cycle? Or try another natural cycle? I'm 34 so maybe things just don't work as easily as 2 years ago with DD.

I'm so sorry about your BFN.

I feel you're pain, AF arrived for me full force today, so I am BFN as well. I also feel betrayed by my body b/c I had so many symptoms. Feeling a tad crazy in all of this...

As for the medicated/monitored cycles, I have decided to introduce meds this cycle. My first IUI was unmonitored and unmedicated. My second IUI, I has a CD12 u/s to measure follicles, but that was all, still no medication.

As for this cycle, I just spoke with my dr's office, and I have decided to take meds CD4-8 this time, have the CD12 u/s and then do the Ovidrel trigger shot. We only have 1 vial of sperm left before we have to buy more... and we are paying over $1k per IUI out of pocket since insurance will not cover it, so we have decided to be more aggressive at this point.

It is SUCH a personal decision, and you and your partner need to be sure what the best path is for you... but for us, we think the best path is to be as aggressive as we can be...

Best of luck to you however you decide to move forward!

  • Thanks for your feedback. Yes, it is expensive! That puts so much stress into the equation. I have a few friends who are also TTC, but in straight relationships, and it just doesn't feel the same for me to get a BFN as it does for them... I know, pity party for me!

I also feel so guilty sometimes for even wanting a 2nd kid. Like I should just be happy with the one and not ask for more. It feels greedy and bad karma. Has anyone experienced this?

On the up-side, this means a little break from those disgusting prenatal vitamins. As well as a chance to drink alcohol. Woo.

KH826- whereabouts are you located? We are in DC area. I'm finding that the infertility world on the east coast is really different than in California, where we concevied DD. Namely, it sucks here. Ha!

  • Maybe consider back to back IUIs if u want to do another natural cycle... This might give you a little extra wiggle room if you aren't quite on target with your O date.

I did monitored cycles with trigger shots and found it nice to have some confirmation and control about knowing I had follicles each time we tried. It's a tough call and certainly money always is a factor.

Good luck, keep us posted on what you decide to do.

  • I'm sorry about your BFN.  I wouldn't assume that not conceiving on the first IUI necessarily means that it's going to be difficult for you.  I'm pretty sure it's rare for people to get pregnant on the first try every time!

I live in Philly. I am not familiar with the infertility world anywhere else HAHA - so I have nothing to compare it too...

I am going to try my hardest to feel hopefully about this upcoming cycle. I feel like a lot of women get pregnant on the 3rd try... I hope to me one of those women...

Just trying to look forward to what is ahead instead of looking back on what wasn't meant to be...
