If one kid is sick do you send the other to school?

I asked this on the multiples board the other day but only got a couple responses and am looking for a few more. When one of my kids gets sick inevitably the other will be sick within a day or two. It is impossible to keep them away from each other. So I feel like sending the well one to school is a bit irresponsible because I'm guessing he's already brewing the bug and not showing symptoms yet. At the same time, it doesn't seem right that every time one kid gets sick I should have to keep the other home from school "just in case." Thoughts?

I don't know what the proper answer is, but I would still send the other kid if they weren't actually sick yet. For all you know they by some miracle might not catch the bug and then they'd be missing school for no reason. Might not be as big of a deal at 3 but once they reach elementary school it's more important they be there if they can.

I'd say still send them - unless you're sure it's a highly contagious disease like chicken pox or a nasty stomach bug that will be spread to other kids or something of that nature.

I would send the well child to school. I have 3 kids, 2 of them are twins and they don't always get sick at the same time. One person's immune system may be able to fight off what another person's immune system could not. Children can't afford to miss school when they are not actually sick.

I still send the other to school so I can focus on the sick child.

I only have one right now but I absolutely would send all symptom free children to daycare/school - even with chicken pox. When I was a kid I got them first and was out of school for two weeks. My brother did end up getting them but not until my two weeks was up and then he missed two weeks. There's no way he should have missed an entire month of school!

I'm glad for the resounding yes. A couple weeks ago Eli threw up in the morning. I kept him home and sent James. The next day James threw up and the following day a couple other kids at school were sick along with the teacher. I felt guilty for sending James. So today when Eli woke up with a cough and boogers I felt like it was a huge dilemma.

I've have kept one of my twins home and sent the other to daycare and now school. Now that they are school age it's easier to keep the other one from contracting the illness. The healthy one always complains about having to go while the sick one is home.

I am an identical twin and we always went to school unless we were showing actual symptoms, rather or not the other one was sick. As we got older there were many times one of us would get sick but not the other. If I had twins I would do the same thing, unless your actually sick you don't really need to stay home IMO.
