Home made playdough?

Anyone have any luck with this?  Got a recipe on Pinterest, and I thought I'd give it a whirl, but wanted to ask for your words of wisdom first

Re: Home made playdough?

  • My former SM and I used to make it all the time when I was younger.  I loved the smell of it!  It dries out easy, so make sure it's stored properly.

  • I've made it but can never seem to get it to store right. Plus I F'ing hate play dough so we don't do it often.
  • I just did this one (skipping the koolaid) and it worked really well. I love that it doesn't require cooking

  • Nice, thanks for the recipe, aliciaroset.  Lopes, how can you hate play dough?  It's so much fun!  We tried it the other day outside, and of course I was more into it than C was.  He took a bite out of the red, so it really made me want to make my own so I know exactly what is in it.

    I made this one:

I love it! Made it over a year ago and it's still as soft as the day I made it. I have it stored in Tupperware [those cheap gladware containers] then I have them in a ziploc bag also. I made like 5 colors and I used the gel food coloring.
  • It's so messy in the house and outside it grosses me out because I feel like its getting all full of pollen and dirt lol. And once there was a peice still stuck to the deck table by accident and it messed up the finish on the glass. I do like silly putty though.
  • We have tried a few non-cooking recipes. I have never gotten anywhere near store-bought quality but it's cheap and fun so my kids don't care. I picked up an accessories set and some cookie cutters at the dollar spot and they go nuts with it.

    Ditto this.

As a side note, my MIL likes to make playdough with peppermint extract in it to make it smell better.  It's a nice thought I suppose, but what the heck do you think a little toddler is going to do with a big handful of delicious smelling dough in her hands?  Hmmmm?  HMMMMM?  ::sigh::

LOL!!  He already took a big bite out of some, and it wasn't even flavored or scented.  It's a good thought for the older kiddos, though.

    Good ideas about storage!
