shaking uncontrollably after delivery- due to epi?

I had an epidural with my first daughter and am not sure about what to do with next one. I remember I had a hard time holding her after for a few hours, I thought due to the epi or side effects of medication. However, my MIL, who is a nurse, says that is not a side effect of an epidural and was just adrenaline that made me shake. Does anyone know about this or experienced something similar?

YES! I shook so horribly after I delivered DD. No one told me about it so I didn't know what was wrong with me. The nurse ressured me that it was normal and it was due to the adrenaline and hormones. Our bodies go through so much. I had an epi as well, but she didn't tell me it was from that, she told me it was just my hormones and completely normal.

I haven't experienced this (FTM) but I read about it. In the reading it said not to be suprised if you shake and shiver uncontroallably because of the epi. I have had experience with this using other anestesia, eventually it calms down. There is also a medicine they can give you to get the shaking to stop if it is really violent but I am not sure if they would do that if you plan to BF.

I shake like mentioned above after any anesthesia...but I'm not sure about an epi and any correlations it may have.

As PP said I did this shaking before and after my epi. Dr. said it was the rush and hormones. I didnt get worried but then again it wasnt like I wasnt able to hold my baby either. So Idk?

Shaking or shivering can be a result of both hormones and adrenaline or an epidural. It's clearly listed as one of the possible side effects.

I did not have an epi and I shook like crazy. I thought I was going into shock, but the nurses said its normal with most pregnancies to do so, like PP said, because of adrenaline and 'coming down' from labour and the trauma of delivery.

It might be a side effect if an epi, but it's also a side effect of giving birth in general.

I shook really bad towards the end of my labor & delivery and also after LO was born. I thought there was something wrong but the OB assured me that it was normal.

I had this, the doctor told me it was a result of hormones changing rapidly, adrenaline, epi wearing off, etc. I remember that I couldn't hold my baby for almost an hour after delivery, my arms were shaking so bad.

It can be a side effect of the epi, especially shaking before you even deliver. However, I had a pain med free birth and shook so hard I couldn't hold my daughter for a half hour! I was told mine was because of the adrenaline...I had a long 22 hour labor, but only had to push for 15 minutes. I guess everything built up and was over too quickly.

I gave birth to DD naturally and had shaking. Midwife assured me it was normal, was adrenaline. I don't know if an epidural impacts or emphasizes it, but I think as a general rule, is pretty normal.

I shake after any coming out of any anesthesia. The worst was when I gave birth to my first (via emergency c/s). They used a different type of medication with my 2nd c/s which scheduled & while I had some mild shaking it wasn't near as bad. I do think part of it has to do with how your body reacts to the combination of the adrenaline & the specific meds they use.

This. Shaking can be a side effect of epidural it is clearly stated as a side effect. But your mom as nurse is also right in saying it is because of hormones and adrenaline. You might shake even without an epi but an epi does increase those chances.

I shook while I was in labor, and this was before the epidural. The nurses told me it's normal, adrenaline etc. I had no side effects with the epidural.
