Parenting after a Loss

S/O introducing solids

Right now DD is EBF, will not take a bottle and still eats every 1-2 hours at almost 4 months old.   Our plan has been to introduce purees at 6 months.  We will be on vacay with DH's family when she turns 6 months old so we have considered introducing them a little earlier.  It would be really nice to not have her attached to my boob 24/7 while on vacay and maybe take advantage of all of the free babysitters for a date night.  I would only feed her things we tried at home because of potential allergies.

Does anyone have any idea how much in advance we would need to introduce them in order for my plan to work?

Re: S/O introducing solids

  • My DD really wasn't interested in solids until probably 7 months, and we waited until 6 months to introduce them. She just wasn't ready. Agree with PPs that offering a sippy cup is a better option.

  • Thanks for the input.  I'm bummed, but we probably will hold out.  I swear we have tried every trick in the book to get her to take a bottle but she just screams like we are torturing her every time.

Little girl knows what she likes! It would be a bit freeing to you to get her to take a bottle....unfortunately I have no tricks for you since we only lasted 3 weeks BF, DS had no issues going to a bottle.

Maybe some day she'll just take to it, do you try it every day...maybe exposing her to it more often will get her used to it before your trip.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

We tried it every day for several weeks, multiple types of bottles even and she still hates them.  Dh typically gives it to her but she screams the whole time and we can force down .5-1oz at best.

  • When you give her a bottle do you pump right before? I ask because we thought A hated the bottle, it was a fight to get her to drink anything and I worried that we waited too long to introduce the bottle. We than realized she would take fresh milk but not frozen which led me to figure out that I have extra lipase so my milk gets funky s few hours after I pump so I have to scald my milk before freezing to turn the lipase off. To me its too much effort so I'd rather just bf, but I'm glad we figured it out for if I need her to take a bottle.
