So upset!

Background: My sister and her soon-to-be-ex-husband have a 2 year old daughter together.  The father has basically never been around since my sister was pregnant... always working tons of hours, supposedly.  Come to find out he has been having an affair and has finally left my sister for his new girlfriend, who also has 2 kids that she doesn't have custody of across the country.  Yeah.  Awful.

My sister never wanted kids, and says she got preggo on the pill.  Doubt that, but that is another story.  So today she calls me up and tells me that her ex-husband and his new girlfriend are going to be moving to where girlfriends 2 sons live, and they want to have full custody of my sister's daughter.  My sister sounds like she is going to go with this, and it absolutely breaks my heart.  This poor 2 year old girl is being tossed around, and is now likely going to live with her dad who didn't want her before, and his girlfriend who hasn't been involved in her 2 boys' lives for the last 6 years.  WTH. 

I wish we could adopt her.

    This. Its a lot to handle but in the eyes of the court, they look at the well being of said child.

    I don't know if I really could do anything.  I doubt it, because the father would probably have to consent to it, and seeing as he is trying to get full custody now... doubtful.  Ugh.  She is like, the sweetest girl ever.  

    I forgot to mention, basically it is all his girlfriend's idea.  She "always wanted a girl"... which is awful, bc she has 2 boys of her own... what happens if she gets pregnant and has a girl??  Then my sweet niece will get replaced.. again.  Ugh.  This is just so heart breaking!

    Any way you could get your sister to fight to keep her and then you could just take care of her instead? Thats kind of what happened to a girl my mom let stay with her (crazy, ridiculous, long story...)

    If a judge deems a certain situation better for a child then it doesn't matter if the parents consent, fwiw

    this sounds like a reasonable idea. have your sis try this.
