Good news: I'm going to see my best friend in a few weeks! YAY!
Bad news: I'm taking the kiddo on his first flight without my husband. YIKES!
A few questions for you travelers:
1) Can I bring those little fruit squeeze pouches on the flight or do they count as a liquid? Do they allow sippy cups?
2) Are there diaper changing stations in the bathrooms? I've flown a million times and I can't say I"ve ever noticed one! (Anyone ever have a massive poopy diaper midflight?)
3) I will gate check the stroller. I'll bring tons of snacks, books, toys, the tablet with movies, a pacifier.... any other suggestions?

I know yes to #2...although it's tight, so don't take a huge diaper bag, jsut a small one, maybe a clutch with wipes and a couple of diapers in it. Fumbling with a diaper bag...and a wiggly toddler just makes it unneccesarily stressful. I would change him/her right before boarding and hope for the best.
If you can, bring a new book and toys, so that it will be especially interesting.
I'm taking my first solo plane trip with LO next week too...wishing luck for both of us! I'm hoping making the flight for close to bedtime (he's generally pretty mellow) was a good idea...:-O
I agree with PPs. I buy new toys from $1 store or $1 spot at Target and lots of snacks and stickers. The iPad/tablet is great too. DD isn't allowed to play with our phones or iPad ever, until we get on the plane, so it's a huge thrill for her to be able to play with it.
I take a gallon size ziplock bag with a small wipes pack and a few diapers and put the ziplock in the diaper bag. Then when I have to go change a diaper, I can just take the ziplock bag out and not the entire diaper bag. GL!
I just flew with DD for the first time a couple weeks ago and it went much bbetter than I expected! I got her a little Dora backpack and filled it with nnew toys and books from Dollarama. Things that were the biggest hit were ones that required some help from me such as a mini Mr. Potato Head, little Pop On Pals where parts go on and off and stickers. I also got her a little activity book that uses a pen you just fill with water, very easy to do on a plane and no mess! I also put in her bunny and her blanky for her comfort items. Silly putty was also fun and no mess like playdoh! I also threw in some triangular crayons (so she didn't lose them off her tray) and a notepad for the stickers/crayons.
In the diaper bag I put a change of clothes and also her pyjamas. Definitely what other posters said about having a little thing you can take to the washroom, it's squishy! I just took the wipes and a diaper out when I went for changes. I stocked up on the pouches and they did really well for take off and landing! I was also worried about take off and landing for pressure changes and bought some ear plugs specific for equalizing pressure, called Earplanes. They were $8 at shoppers and worked really well on the way there. On the way back DD was less cooperative after a week away from home and just kept taking them out so pouches and a soother were the way to go. They didn't make us dump out liquids, just swabbed if they needed to. I also packaged little snacks into serving bags.. cheerios, yogurt melts, puffs, raisins, goldfish and threw in some oranges. Food is always a good distractor!
Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great!
