What do you do with your DD's hair? Help me!

DD's hair is a mess right now. she's never had a haircut and I think it's time for some intervention.  It's pretty curly in the back and sticks out randomly on the sides. the front of her hair is straight and she has a pretty high widows peak that kind of looks mow-hawkish when they're straight down (and in her face).

so now I'm thinking I should cut bangs but I had bangs as a kid and hated them.  Plus, I have a feeling she's going to be a haircut freak out kid like her brother so the maintenance would suck.   She hates me touching her hair or putting a clip or high or high pony tail in, usually rips them out.   My original plan was to just keep letting it grow til I can do a full pony tail, pull it all back.  I thought that would be better for summer.  So, what are you doing? Short cut? Long? Bangs?  Anyone's else's kid have both curly and straight hair? Oh, and is there any truth to the curls disappearing after getting that first haircut?

  • My dd has hair just like yours, curly in back and straight in front.  She also hates when I put things in it, but I recently got her a trim and it looks so much better.  I try to push her bangs over to the side (sometimes wet them, sometimes sneak a clip in) and I'm just waiting for them to grow out.  I found some really small clips at target that she doesn't notice are in her hair.  They are the size of a coin and heart shaped.

  • exact same as my dd, I distract her while I put the front up in pigtails, a side pony or a single pony on top. we use the small elastics they stay the best and dd rarely pulls them out. clips only last minutes. a lot of times I do get hair while she eats breakfast, she fights less if she's busy.

  • I'd do a side swept bangs and just trim the back so over the summer you can pull it back.

This is what we did with my DD. Although her hair grows sloooow. At your DD's age we did pig tails and she had bangs going on but we never cut them that way. Then when they started getting long I did a side sweep clip thing. Works like a charm! Got these great alligator clips with cute animals on them at Claire's and she kept them in. Still wears them. Her hairs really trained now and stays out of her eyes really nice now but it's been a long process.
  • We use the teeny elastic bands to put her hair up in two pigtails.  Granted the pigtails are always slightly uneven, but when I use a clip to push her hair off to the side, she rips them out.  Her hair is fairly straight, but her hair is at the point where it's just below her nose so we have to put it up daily.  I had bangs for years and years and hated them as well.  I'm definitely not cutting bangs for DD, because it's such a pain to grow them out once you don't want them anymore.

  • DD was born with a full head of hair. It is incredibly straight though...always has been. She has already had 4 haircuts.

We gave her bangs...left the rest long enough that we can put it up in pigtails. Can you put it up in pigtails now? Then you can see how it looks and if she will keep them in!

This. DD is the pigtail queen and she also rips out hair clips, etc.

I feel the same way on the bangs, too. I'm not getting DD's hair cut for awhile.
