Suggestions for Natural Childbirth Books

For mobile bumpies: Suggestions for Natural Childbirth Books

Can anyone recommend a couple good books for natural childbirth and/or the Bradley Method? I've been searching my library catalog and can't find any good ones. FTM and all help is appreciated.

Re: Suggestions for Natural Childbirth Books

  • We read:

Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way: Revised Edition

Husband-Coached Childbirth : The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth

Well, technically I read the latter, and read the former to DH on a long car ride--but he made flash cards himself :-)

I also recommend books by Ina May Gaskin, esp. for the actual birth stories included. they can be a bit hippy (ok, a lot) and crunchy, but really helpful esp. to counter the images of birth we see in pop culture.

  • I agree with the PPs recommendations.  I also liked "The thinking womens guide to a better birth" by Henci Goer.  It focuses on hospital births and what interventions are needed and when.  I found it especially helpful since I delivered in the hospital.

The pp's suggestions are great. I loved Ina May Gaskins books. I was also glued to the 'birth without fear' blog. It's amazing for reading birth stories :)

Anything Ina May. I also had I think hypnobirthing. I was skeptical of it because of the hypno part, but there were a lot of really good relaxation techniques in there.
  • Great suggestions - thanks to all. :)

All of these. Ina May is pretty crunchy, but the birth stories are really beautiful.

I liked Ina May as well, also just got Hypnobirthing but haven't read it yet. I'm reading Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering. It is written by a dr. who has chosen home birth. It describes your options and gives information on both sides. In terms of nutrition, I LOVED Beautiful Babies by Kristen Michaelis.
