Teacher Appreciation Day and a ?

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to all you teachers out there!  You are amazing, I don't know how you do it.

Are day care teachers considered teachers?  Did anyone get their day care teacher anything for Teacher Appreciation?  If so, what?

I'll be watching this!  There was a note at daycare that said "this week is Teacher Appreciation Week so show your teachers your appreciation".  I didn't send it in yet, but I'm thinking I'll send in thank yous to DS's 2 main teachers with a small gift card and maybe bake something for everyone else.  We'll see if the baking actually happens though!  I might send it in on Friday since I'm sure they're getting lots of baked stuff earlier in the week.

I'm not sure if daycare providers are considered teachers, but either way I'm sure they would appreciate some kind of small recognition!

When I was a teacher I honestly loved homemade things from the kids and would hang then all around my desk.  I know your LO is small, but even a little card with her handprints or something on it would be so nice.  If you felt like it you could always throw in a GC to somewhere like Starbucks or Barnes and Noble.

Ooh, I could do thank you cards with the adorable foot print butterflies! I bet they would like that! Great idea.

  • G's school definitely recognizes the daycare teachers this week. They are also a daycare through 8th grade facility so perhaps that makes a difference. They sent a note to all parents about bringing flowers one day, a card another day and anything else we wanted. I am working on a card and then bringing in some treats. I sprained my wrist really bad yesterday - falling like a dummy - so I may buy something instead of making it. Embarrassed

Thanks TJ! It's a real pain in the butt not having two hands with a 9 month old.

I think it's nice you're even thinking about doing something for them. One of the districts I've worked in had parents volunteer to take our classes and all of us teachers got to take an hour and a half lunch off campus, in addition to the handmade things from the kids. It was so thoughtful. The district I'm in now doesn't really recognize it, much less the parents or the kids. It's nice to be appreciated from time to time.

  • I do. They still "teach" and honestly there job is hard. I will get thank you cards and add in a small ($5) gift card. I'll do one for each regular teacher in his room (there are 3) plus one for the floater and one for the cook (who is also a floater but mostly because DS totally adores her and I think she's often overlooked with how much she does). So 5 cards and gift cards.
  • In DS1's pre-school we did a few little things every day, like flowers from the garden and have the children make pictures.  In his pre-K we also brought in flowers from our gardens (this is coordinated so one parent brigs in a vase and the teacher ends up with a big colorful bouquet of flowers.)

I also happened to stumble across some chocolates wrapped in foil that look like apples at See's Candies so I bought those for his 2 teachers this year. He also made a card for each of them.
