My LO gets pretty aggressive while nursing, she will scream, pull off and act like she cant get the milk fast enough. I dont know if:
A I have a slow let down and she wants it faster.
B Shes becoming lazy bc we sometimes give bottles of expressed milk so I can take a breather. Seems easier then sucking at the breast.
C My milk is coming out too quick.
Any thoughts? Anyone else's LO like this?
Re: Aggressive while nursing?
If you think the problem is a slow letdown, you could try pumping until you have your letdown and then having her latch on. My right side has a bit of a forceful let down and I'll often hear her sorta choke, she'll pull away, cough, and then want to latch back on.
How often are you giving her bottles? Some babies do end up preferring the bottle.
Maybe try to keep it to 1 bottle a day and see if that helps?
One thing I realized I didnt mention is that this seems to be more of an issue later in the day...which leads me to think lower/slower supply.
Could be- try upping your water intake. Or it could be that she has had enough bottles at that point to want another bottle instead of breast.
I was having the same problem. DS would latch on vigorously, like he was starving. He'd then pull off after less than 10 seconds and scream, latch back on, pull off, scream, and so on. It wasn't for every feeding and usually later in the day like you said. He's only had a couple of bottles when I haven't been home so that is not an issue for him. I thought it was low supply also, but I noticed that when he'd pull off and my nipple would graze his face, he would get milk all over his cheek.
I talked about it with the pediatrician and he said he thinks it is reflux so DS started Zantac on Monday. I can't tell if it's really helping or not yet. He had 2 feedings with lots of pulling off yesterday, but not as much screaming/frustration.
