Trying to Get Pregnant

Went off BC...no period now!

 Help!

My last cycle began on April 8th, and after that cycle I went off BC. I was scheduled to start my next cycle on May 6th and have yet to start. I have taken a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I am concerned that I will not ovulate or at least not know when I ovulate. Has anyone else been in the same boat?!

Re: Went off BC...no period now!

  • A lot of people experience some irregularities coming off of BC. This is your first cycle off the pill and it's absolutely normal as your cycles revert to what they naturally are which might not be 28 days like when you were on the pill. No need to worry unless you go 60 days or more without a period.

  • It can take a while for your cycles to regulate. Start temping and call your dr on CD60. GL!

  • Your body needs to find its new normal.  That may or may not be the 28 days you can to expect while on birth control.

Many of us here use FertilityFriend (a free website) to monitor our cycles.

    Welcome and good luck.

  • Hello there and welcome.  I believe lots of women have been on the same boat.  Some women have long cycles as long as 50 days, some even longer.

If you don't get your period for 60 days, you should call your doctor.  Since you have just gotten of BC, it may take a while for your body to regulate.

    Good luck.

Read the newbie link and check out Fertility Friend. Charting your BBT basal body temp is the only way to prove and pinpoint ovulation.

  • It took my cycles 3 months to regulate coming off BC.  I had random spotting all over the place.  Breathe and relax a bit.  in 60 days, if nothing has happened call your provider and ask if they would like to see you.

  • It can take a while for your body to regulate coming off birth control. When you were on the pill, you were medicated to have perfect 28 day cycles.

Also, there is no way to know exactly when you ovulated unless you are charting your basal body temperature.

Check out this link, you'll thank me later Wink

  • The only reason your "periods" came every 28 days before is because birth control regulated them. I am too lazy to explain the rest of this crap but I am sure someone will pick up my slack.

Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling much more relieved!  :) I'm so fearful that the pill has messed with my system and will prevent pregnancy...I need to get over that! Thanks again!

  • I'm in the same boat right now.  Went off BCP back in October and today I've started my period for only the 3rd time.  You can take a look at my charts through the link below.

I highly recommend starting to chart.  Your next few cycles will probably be wacky and it will let you know if and when you ovulate.  Again, if you look at my charts you will notice I haven't ovulated for the past couple cycles.

That being said, also focus on being healthy to help get your body back to normal.  Multivitamins or prenatals are great, make sure you are eating healthy and working out on a normal basis.  All will help your body regulate itself again.

    Good luck!!

    True story.

And Terrapantz said basically what I was going to say. The pill was regulating your cycles. So there's no way to know if you are truly late because you don't have any frame of reference for what your body does when you're not on birth control. (And it likely has changed since your pre-BCP days.)

  • I stopped my BCP in mid August, and even though I was 'due' to get my period that week I didn't end up getting it until a month later, mid September. It happens.

    Hi!

The same thing happened to me! I had my period at the end of my pack and then my next cycle I waited 40 days. If you don't get it for 60 days I would call your MD. Mine was ready to do testing at 40 days but on the 41st day I started my period. Give it some time! GL to you!

My OBGYN said they would have me come in and do blood work and they also mentioned an US to look at where the lining of my uterus was measuring at.
