Overwhelmed by kindness

My FIL paid for our Acupuncture treatments ($750) and it was so hard to accept. I felt awful because he had been forced into retirement and he cares for his father who really needs hospice care. Anyhow, today while I was at work and DH is in OK for work, he came by so that a leak could be fixed by a plumber. I just now got home after an evening of my students putting on their plays and there is a check for $2000.00 on our desk. I called DH to ask what his dad owed us for and he said nothing, that it was probably for our IF treatments. I am bawling right now because 1. I feel so loved that he would do this for us and 2. I have an overwhelmingly sense of guilt and worry. What if this doesn't work and his gift has gone to waste? I don't know how to feel, but I really want DH to sneak it back to him. He is retired and really needs to save for himself. I know I should be happy and thankful, but I really don't want to let him down over something I can't control. I'm home alone and DH is still working. Thanks for listening.

Wow!! What an amazingly generous gift!! I am not sure how I would handle that either! I think if it was a guaranteed thing then it would be a different story, but IF is so out of our control!! What an amazing support you have. That is so great!

Wow what a sweet FIL you have. I would be very touched too. I think it is wonderful that he gave it to you discretely and to me that shows that he really wants you to have it. I can understand that now you feel pressure though.

Awww that is so fantastic : what a wonderful FIL! I always feel bad taking my parents money when they help us with treatments bc there is a large chance the money will be wasted, but my parents know that, and I'm sure your FIL does too, but im sure this is a way for him tk let you know he supports you and your husband. What a great gesture.

That's awesome and so generous!

I had the same problem and worries last month. My brother and SIL offered to pay for our IUI. I explained to them that the chances of it working are slim and that I was worried they would be disappointed if it didn't work. We spoke about it and they knew the risks.

I gave them access to my blog which I never shared with any IRL people so they could keep up with what was going on and I wouldn't feel pressured to constantly keep updating them.

Once we had that out of the way, my month was much more relaxed because I wasn't worried about the financial burden of that cycle. It didn't work out, obviously, but I was still very grateful for their desire to help and kindness.

Wow, that is amazingly generous and kind. I would have a hard time too, but accept it graciously he obviously thought it out and wanted to do something kind for you. : Allow him the joy of giving that gift. And for you lots and lots of positive thoughts that this works.
